Will there ever be a point when heirloom gear gets reworked t have value again and become useful? Right now it’s an extreme gold sink on buying and upgrading them for extremely little in return and it does nothing to make levelling easier or faster in any way. Is this just the permanent case now or will heirlooms be looked at in an upcoming patch?
I don’t use gold to buy upgrades. I use holiday currency. And gold sinks are good.
I mean… I get to transmog most of my gear and leave it alone as I level. I think the rested XP extension is about all we’re going to get, given how quick it is to level these days.
I don’t think there’s anything to look at. Blizz won’t be giving a straight XP buff again and they won’t make the gear more powerful, due to the issues it caused between new and old players.
For those that don’t know, it was a weird practice to kick people from groups for not having heirlooms, because it was a badge of not having good enough gear to roflstomp and being new, so doubly won’t do as much damage. Dumb? Yes. But this is one of the reasons the gear was brought down in numbers.
I love the looms but yeah, given the exaggerated price to upgrade, at this point if I didnt have all the looms upgraded already, Id never bother with them in their current state.
Id say lower the cost to upgrade, but mine already are 6/6 so that doesnt help me at all.
Put the experience bonus back in. Leveling is warp speed now as it is, a little faster isnt going to damage the game.
I find heirloom gear to be in a good spot right now, it is a fall back if you don’t get upgrades often and scales with you.
Only think I could see as far as the experience bonus back in is IF it was on of the bonuses for wearing x pieces of it, before it was a certain % on certain pieces which I think added up to the point where it was ridiculous combined with the current leveling speed.
The real value right here.
It’d be nice if they added the heirloom effects to artifact weapons though. It’d be fun to be able to have them level with you.
Ooh that would be snazzy.
I think they are fine, they just need to make them dirt cheap to buy/upgrade. Or just make them all max leveled out at the start and super cheap.
wish they get rid of the rested xp bonus and just added back +xp, leveling stuff on the side feels bad when you run out of rested xp
Basically this, the rested XP thing honestly feels like it’s trying to discourage you from leveling constantly. They are telling you, once you use all your rested XP, park that character for a few days and wait to level again.
Whereas if they had an XP bonus for having X number of pieces and maybe do like the current rested buff thing where it’s X% for 2 pieces and an additional X% for all the pieces it doesn’t feel punishing.
It’s even funnier when Blizz does events like the current one where they give massive XP buffs, but refuse to let people get that through an in-game method.
So having gear that’s always max ilvl for its level bracket “does nothing.” Fascinating.
Wouldn’t that be nice? But if you examine the ilvls of heirlooms and dungeon gear for levelers, you will see that heirlooms are NEVER “max ilvl for their level bracket”.
Then look at quest gear. This will make it apparent that the purpose of having an ilvl of quest gear so much lower than heirlooms or dungeon gear is to provide an “incentive” for players without the heirlooms they need, and especially players who are struggling with an ilvl of 6 at level 10, to buy tokens to get and max out heirlooms.
During shadowlands, level 10 players got ilvl 12 quest gear, while heirlooms were 14 and dungeon gear was 16, I recall. Now level 10 players get ilvl 9 quest gear, while heirlooms are 29 and dungeon gear 33. Quest gear sucks at all levels.
It’s useful right now, just…too expensive, I think.
I just enjoy having the same mog on for the most part, big jump at some levels to (60-61 does a jump of 60 items levels, I dunno seems like a power spike compare to if you didn’t have em).

Instead of the xp bonus (bc as you said, leveling is super fast anyway) I’d rather see they put a rep bonus on the heirloom gear.
I recently made a new toon to go back and level through BfA content for the Alliance reps (I played horde that expansion) and despite being a human and the winds of sanctuary buff (which is supposed to be ALL rep except Niffen) I still didn’t even reach revered with the factions after doing every single quest in the zone.
They have the tabards for classic faction rep, so why not add a rep bonus to heirloom gear to slightly speed up the grind for other old reps?
Give each piece like 2% xp buff
Plus
2pc - dmg proc
4pc - buff proc
6pc - level up proc buff
.
Why would you mail them across server when every new character has instant access to making them? Unless of course you have a higher level character that is enchanting the items before sending them over?
Edit: also rested xp is capped at (something like) 2.5 levels. Even with heirlooms, you’ll run out unless you log off before hand and let it sit.
actually, that sounds much better.
