When will blizzard fix the dungeon deserter debuff for getting kicked for no reason?

Some of us have limited time to play. 3 times it’s happened now that I’ve been kicked form a dungeon for no reason. Groups are doing it just to be toxic or to bully. Is this something blizzard plans on addressing or are they just going to keep it the same?

Unfortunately, there really isn’t a good fix. You’re right, it does suck to be booted for no reason, and there are bad actors. But the alternatives lead to even worse situations.

Genuinely, and I’m not being snide, if you’ve got a new take on the issue that might solve it, then I for one would be all ears, and I’m sure Blizzard would be too!

It’s just one of those really hard to solve conundrums in systems design.

There’s nothing to fix, you get the debuff if you get kicked. That’s been the intent since Wrath, the moment they saw people trolling for a kick to avoid the debuff

I’m not saying this never happens but I don’t think I’ve been kicked from a group in over a decade. To be kicked three times in a short timeframe for “no reason” sounds like deceit of the highest order.

It could also be something the OP is doing but isn’t aware of. They might have a name that a few people find offensive (not sure what character they’re on when they pug), or they might be making a mistake they aren’t seeing.

It’s not broken. The way it’s set up is a deliberate decision, and despite a speech about not being stubborn anymore, it’s unlikely to change.

There’s nothing to fix because the groups aren’t doing anything wrong. Second show us anywhere with any kind of verifiable stat that there are groups out there just kicking for the lulz and no reason. Because I’ve seen well over 25 threads of people like yourself saying this but none of you have been willing or able to provide any kind of verifiable evidence to demonstrate this. It’s all been anecdote that amounts to “trust me bro.”

Third if you’re getting kicked multiple times in a short while, this means it’s something you’re doing and you know why you were kicked but are afraid to tell us. Can people get unlucky enough to get a bad group sometimes, sure it’s going to happen once in awhile. However folks calling vote kicks is rare enough as is, and folks doing it for the lulz is rarer still. So rare in fact I can still count on one hand how many times I’ve seen it in the past 15 years and still have fingers left over. If you had only been kicked one time, I could’ve chalked that up to a bad group. If it had been 2, definitely something on your end, perhaps not knowing mechanics or something, but not necessarily on its own malicious. However 3 times is definitely YOU being the problem in a group. If you’re getting kicked that often it’s absolutely something you’re doing or not doing. Not only this but everyone who gets kicked that often knows why they’re getting kicked and just don’t want to say it.

The debuff exists because in the early days of the system if you left early you would get a leaver penalty but could avoid the penalty if you were kicked. So tanks/healers would get a run they didn’t like and demand to be booted to avoid the penalty because “I’m not doing Oculus” or similar. So if you want to get mad about the penalty, blame those people. The system also keeps track of how often you kick people and if people are constantly calling kicks, their ability to do so is diminished.

Lastly Blizzard isn’t going to hold you hand like mommy and daddy and say to groups “let your brother play with you or else.” Groups have every right to boot you at any time for any reason. You don’t have to like getting booted as no one does. But they’re not going to do anything about it because they’re doing nothing wrong.

You missed the tank who provided evidence of holding no aggro and not using the proper weapons, armor, or rotation

When was this? lols. Cause that sounds like absolute gold. As a tank that also pains my soul simultaneously.

Probably a week back. It goes to show people will miss even the most egregious examples of messing up sometimes, and think they were unjustly kicked.

This is a little sus to me.

But also: there’s nothing to fix. The group didn’t want you there. It’s the agency we have over auto queue pug groups.

Ogod… that was such a trainwreck. LOL

They solved the problem of people leaving after first boss in Ara Kara heroic though! Great lasting change real solid job

That was pure gold!

Vote kicking is constantly abused for trivial things or outright trolling. I see no reason that the current penalty is better than not having it. At the very least removing it avoids punishing people who have done nothing wrong, while still allowing you to remove problem players.

IRRC they added it to kicks because people were asking to be kicked from bad instances they didn’t want to do. And rather then reward those players they punish everyone.

there was a reason. every time.
