When will Blizzard fix guards?

I played all through vanilla and I can say that Blizzard got the guards very wrong in classic.

The guards at LHC almost do nothing, it’s rare they even aggro (I have Revered rep if you want to know). Sure back in the day LHC was a pvp hotbed but there was constant repercussions from the guards. For all intents and purposes right now there are no guards in LHC.

The guards in gadz are somewhat functional but not like they were in vanilla. They aggro on people that attack you about 50% of the time but only the first person to attack you. Then 3 more pile on and no guards ever go after them.

This isn’t rocket science here folks, the guards in vanilla were actually a thing, ask anyone who played it. The guards in classic are a joke besides the ones defending zeplins.

All you need to do Blizzard is take a look at your UC and Gromgol zep tower guards, they are behaving like guards of vanilla.

Of course most servers are more horde than alliance and meanwhile the boat guards are beyond pathetic. I don’t remember if they were bad in vanilla off hand but for all intents and purposes boats are unguarded while zeplins are the best guarded things in wow classic.

The funny part is how the Zepplin guards work but the Boat guards don’t. Horde can just stand on boats in places like Menethil and have absolutely zero aggro or repercussions from guards as they spam DOTS, ranged casts, roots, moonfire, concussive/arcane shots. Guards just stand there picking their noses.

Alliance guards will have downs syndrome until the game dies. #nochanges :frowning:

The guards in vanilla will only protect you if you have the correct level of Reputation with their faction. This is working as intended.

So, like I said in my original post, I’m Revered with AD. Are you really suggesting they’ll protect me once I get Exalted?

Clearly blizz only cares about the horde guards. Just to add I saw 5 60’s run straight into southshore and go in the inn without aggroing a single guard.

I believe it depends on the set of guards, its not universal. You may need to be exalted for AD.

They won’t get involved unless you’re friendly or higher

yeah you’re trolling
when i did the hallow’s end quests by myself i couldn’t manage to go without aggroing guards, and i even died once or twice
to guards
i even had to kill a civilian so he’d stop endlessly spawning guards, but that was before honor

Even if you actually required Exalted rep for the LHC guards to protect you in classic (which would be beyond ridiculous) I can assure you it was not that way in vanilla.

C’mon blizz, the guards worked pretty damn well in vanilla, you did it once, I’m sure if you put a little bit of effort in to it you can do it again.

I totally agree with this post. Beef up the guards a bit Blizz. And to you #nochanges folks. This won’t change your game play in any way unless you are griefing folks at flight points, boats, zepplins, and nuetral towns. Getting ganked in Booty Bay while interacting with the bank is something that should be discouraged. Don’t you think?

I went to Everlook last night to stand around and let the horde of horde kill me for a while to test the guards there.

  • the guards actually did try and defend me
  • only the original attacker was ever chased, the 3-8 secondary attackers got no aggro
  • 50% of the time the players just walked it off until the guards reset
  • there are several spots where you get no guard aggro, inside many of the buildings

Overall the Everlook guards are much more functional than Gadz (and LHC pretty much has no guards so I can’t even compare it).

Still in vanilla guards would instantly spawn out of thin air to deal with threats but I’m not seeing this in classic. It seems only the guards that are standing around at the time will assits you.

It would be a huge step up if Blizzard got off their cans and fixed the LHC guards to at least the level of Everlook.

When I was done and decided to hearth it was actually a bit of a challenge to get it off. Took me about 4 attempts.

kinda sad… .i remember doing the wrong thing in the wrong place before.
and elite guards would basically 2 shot you .

Is it just me or were the guards originally 62 elites…
and if you attacked one 2 would spawn?( but the spawned one would not spawn more)

I swear they were not 5 levels under cap. and puny side ticklers…

LHC guards were always useless. Because there are no LHC guards really, just that one patroling cavalry unit.

I wouldn’t say guards in general are broken. Have you ever tried picking a fight in Cenarion Hold? I have. It doesn’t end well for the aggressor, of that I can assure you. I’ve seen those dudes wipe the floor with a 20 man raid.

I can assure you in vanilla the guards in LHC were not useless. Classic LHC is nothing like vanilla LHC.

Are you perhaps thinking of LHC after the Naxx update when they added a whole bunch of guards and the new NPCs for Tier 3 stuff?

Because pre-Naxx patch, LHC was definitely super sparse on guards. In fact, the Shadow of the Necropolis patch notes specifically mention adding a guard system, because prior to that, we had what we have now, which is just the two randomly roaming cavalry that do diddly squat.

I know Classic is supposed to be predicated on v1.12/13, but clearly somethings haven’t been added yet, which I suspect, include the LHC guards that came with the first Scourge Invasion.

We have the 1.12 LHC because it’s an Inn and there is a mailbox. Those things were added for 1.12 as was the guard system.

I think the biggest problem with guards right now is they aren’t spawning in. In vanilla it would cause the existing guards to aggro as well as spawn 1-3 more in out of thin air. This spawning behaviour only seems to be happening at the stupid fort knox zeppelin towers. You just try and run past without touching anyting there and you get 3-4 heavy elites with a rep you can’t kill on you.

I have 4 witnesses that can attest to it but go ahead and think i’m trolling just because your faction gets pampered.

I recall guards getting buffed at some point but for the most part, they are wimpy.

In Duskwood, a group of level 24 regular “guards” is sent out to defend the town against Stiches, who is a 35 elite! He one shots the group and goes on about his merry way. Silly.

Some guards at XR are over 35 but most are not.

I also noticed a lack of guards in the major cities. In retail, there are many many more throughout the cities. In Classic I had to travel from Old Town to the main gate in SW to find one.

At some point after Vanilla, the health/level/status of many overworld guards was increased radically, but I don’t recall when this happened.

Too much to ask for a full spelling of that? For those of us who live on the outside, that can carry a very different meaning.

Not complaining or anything. Just confused.
