Be honest. It had genuinely been since Wrath of the Lich King for me, like ~17 years. Crazy!
I’m kinda shocked at how much it’s improved and how it’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be. There’s definitely still much room for improvement, but it’s definitely also improved a lot in the ~17 years I hadn’t used it.
Yeah, yesterday. I don’t use addons any more. Sometimes I miss Xperl, but the default unit frames are almost just as good now. At least for group content.
Since like late BfA, when I accidentally wiped the custom UI addon I’d written for myself, had no backup, and couldn’t be arsed to write it from scratch or replicate it with existing addons.
I use a few more minor addons like WIM but nothing that overhauls the whole UI.
Since right before SL dropped. I left the game for over a year and when I came back, I decided to not chase end game and I didn’t see a need to use addons to change the UI.
Don’t know… Burning Crusade or Wrath. it has been so long.
However, since Dragonflight, I have been using some of Blizzard’s new edit mode stuff. I am not 100% happy with it and wish it gave more control over hiding some frames and I am using addons to provide additional UI still. I don’t have any combat addons installed at the moment though.
I’ve always used the default UI. I just downloaded that addon that removed the griffons and that’s it.
I’ve never had the patience to sit there and customize my screen. I always just spent the money and got a big monitor. (Edit: well, not in 2004 but around 2007 forward.)
How long did it take you to get used to the switch?
I went cold turkey and just got rid of everything minus Plater/BigWigs for now, and I leveled a new character, a healer too, to get used to it. It didn’t take me very long at all to adjust to it, maybe a day or two at most, and I normally take awhile to readjust to changes.
