I remember a time when Blues would be on here, either responding to questions, explaining design choices or just interacting with the community.
Now there is nothing. I understand to a degree, why would you want to interact with some of the people who are here but on the other hand, peoples hostility towards Blizz (recent events aside) has worsened as its people have slowly withdrawn from the community.
Blue posts got noticeably less frequent after Ghostcrawler left. I always respected that GC was willing to communicate even when I disagreed with what he had to say. It hasn’t been the same since.
It’s ironic in a way… Warhammer devs didn’t communicate and when I left Warhammer for WoW around Cata launch I remember seeing 1-3 blue posts per day and thinking this is one reason why WoW had 12 million subs at the time. Customer service was better back then too with GMs helping in game instead of only via online tickets. Things have definitely gotten worse over the years when it comes to communication and customer service.
After employees were let go and the forums updated I’ve only seen them on the GD when making announcements. Tech and Customer Service maybe the only forums were there is responses still going on because they’re helping players with the problems they post their.
It is sad not seeing a Blue just pop up in a thread to answer a question, or Heaven forbid try to have fun and chat in a non-game related thread, because you knew at least they were lurking around. (Also kinda sad that after the forum updates the Blues got a generic shield with a B in the center instead of each having their own animated avatar.)
The general attitude seems to be that it would be setting bad precedent to attempt to communicate with players, that it might make the paying customers think they are respected.
Even when they’d occasionally throw a new CM at us, it never felt genuine. They always popped up out of nowhere, introduced themselves, left a favorable impression, interacted for like a week, then just disappeared into the night without a word.
Always felt like Blizzard hazing new employees or something.
Lately they’ve been randomly picking a thread that matches what they were going to post anyways. It’s not a response to an individual like they try to make it seem.
Times have definitely changed, and not for the better.
Even the tiny Everquest team has devs that regularly post.
imo the biggest problem is the blues comment on non-important/superficial “fluff” topics like Void Elf hair colors and Nightborne faces rather than the main “core” issues of substance like borrowed power, the story, alt-friendliness, PvP gearing, etc etc
If you pay close attention, you will notice the blues mostly comment on/visit those aforementioned “fluff” topics that don’t really matter for the overall quality of the game.
My theory is they deliberately pick those fluff topics to post in because they are “easy” or “safe” - it’s simply much easier/less work for the blue to announce say, a few new hair colors for Void Elves than it is for them to address the main/actual problems the community is complaining about regarding the state of the game
Well, two things. One, it’s the holidays. Two, there’s the (sarcastic finger quotes) “Community Council” now, so they have an excuse to ignore us while pretending to not ignore the council.
Community council forum is super dead right now, and barely any Blue interaction since it’s inception. Was hoping for more, and I’m still hoping to see more as the holidays clear.
I also remember a time when GD posters were respectful and weren’t toxic to anyone who said something they disagreed with, including blue posters.
Given the environment on this forum, I am not at all surprised that no Blizzard GM wants to talk to folks here outside of official announcements. It’s not worth the headache.
I mean, yeah, it was bad, but not as bad as it is now. I was there, I remember.
Blue posters could post in fun threads like general discussion lounges and they could make funny quips in various threads and people were generally happy to see it, and the amount of salt directed at the employee was there, but not excessive.
Now when a blue posts in a thread, they get a truck load of salt and abuse dumped on them.
I’m sure the CM’s have other duties to fill up their time, based on the fact that they only seem to show up here to drop announcements so the devs can continue to avoid the forums.
