I can’t seem to get a straight answer on this. How many targets calls for using implosion?
More than one
Implosion does less dmg to your target based on your imps energy. Lower energy = lower dmg. However all enemies within 8 yards of your target take full dmg. So 2 or more targets you can implode.
Generally implode at 6-9 imps based on your haste.
What auster says.
Implosion is technically dmg(not dps) neutral on single target so it just wastes a global usually. But since any target it hits besides the main target get treated as if they had full energy and just being another thing to hit as soon as 2 show up you wanna blast.
Even with lower haste value 3 packs isn’t too difficult so try for it generally speaking and implode immediately after the 3rd pack spawns in. Going for a 4th isn’t likely to pan out except in tyrant phase or you just drowning in demon cores.
Hand>db>hand>db>hand>some filler to allow for imp spawn>implosion is basic idea
That all said there are exceptions.
Implosion is dmg neutral but not dps. It just crams the dmg into one global.
So if a boss like Shriekwing is about to immune, burn implosion to get max value. If a boss has a weakness phase like Sludgefist then burn implosion right before it ends to max out what you can grab.
It can also be used as a ‘ghetto’ target swap for mechanics like the waiter in Council. Boss taking less dmg but got to burn another? Well the imps don’t respond to commands. But you can hard swap their dmg to the new target with implosion.
Oh right tyrant bombs I forgot.
Ok so tyrant being out makes all your imps casts free so they build and build. This means you can make a monster ball of the blighters following the tyrant despawn. Sometimes you can even crank one last hand after the old boy fades but before any imps despawn. If pure ST this changes nothing but if even 1 extra add is available to tag then this implosion can rocket you up meters since you can have 4-5 packs or even more out at once.
It’s actually a very flexible spell but nobody really like it cept me lol.
Thank you for this. Makes a lot of sense. I’ve mostly been playing demo in M+ and wasn’t using implosion much. Since using on 2+ targets I have been doing crazy damage. Demo seems underrated in M+ at least. I think a lot of people might just not be playing it right because a lot seem to not like it. One critique is I wish the imps would insta spawn or implosion could be casted while casting. Having to wait for them to spawn is a little clunky.
Demo is def a sleeper spec. That said, you can underperform pretty bad if your grp does unexpected shenanigans that mess with tyrant timings. It’s not quite as brain dead as you would expect from a superficial look at the spec.
