Hi fellow druids, i wanted to know when should i be refreshing my dots on a single target boss . I usually wait until im out of eclipse so i dont waste any wraths in solar eclipse or starfire in lunar eclipse. This means i may miss out a few seconds on some dots. Am i doing this wrong?
Thanks.
You want to be in an Eclipsed state as much as possible. It’ll take a little getting used to as far as timing goes, but you want to ideally refresh towards the end of an eclipse so it’s fresh going into a he new one
Moonfire in solar
Sunfire in Lunar
If you play with Soul or the Forest talent (which I recommend), it’ll make generating AP to pool your 90 before next eclipse state easier. So you’re not wasting as many Wraths before entering Lunar Eclipse.
Taking 1 GCD to refresh your DoTs while in an eclipse to help minimize your time outside of eclipses will net better results than waiting to drop eclipse to refresh DoTs because your DoTs benefit from eclipses as well as your filler spells (wrath/Starfire). So again, to emphasize, want to be in an Eclipse state as much as possible
So find a training dummy and practice for 10-15 minutes to get your timing down to when you need to refresh your DoTs “inside” an eclipse

Yes, you are doing it wrong.
You want to dot while inside an eclipse, so you spend the absolute minimum amount of time not in an eclipse.
When outside of an eclipse, you want to be doing 1 thing only - immediately casting the two spells required to get back into an eclipse.
To min/max it a bit harder, on single target you want to be dotting during your lunar eclipse, to create less interference with your more optimal single target eclipse (solar).
AOE is a lot more complicated, but generally speaking you want to do the opposite, and dot during solar, so you can spam more starfires during lunar. However, on AOE you should always put up sunfire on everything as soon as it’s stacked (try only use 1 global to sunfire everything).
Read the rotation section of the icy veins balance guide for the full detail.
Also look up pandemic windows and how they work in wow. From memory they’re around 6-7 seconds for moonfire and sunfire, so you’re not losing any duration if you refresh them inside that.

it’s the other way around… read spell tooltips bois
Sunfire in Solar. Nature damage to nature eclipse
Moonfire in Lunar. Arcane damage to arcane eclipse
Necro to say something wrong? C’mon man. They’re not asking what dot does dmg in what eclipse, they’re suggesting in what eclipse to refresh it so it’s fresh going into the appropriate eclipse which is coming up.
