If I remember my days of Classic correctly, we could learn other Alliance/Horde races languages as much as we could learn new Weapons from Weapon Masters. Is it possible to add the NPCs who did this to new Classic. I would very much appreciate it.
You could never learn other races languages.
Edit: unless that was a beta thing. I did not play the beta of vanilla.
They briefly experimented with requiring to learn other languages (within your faction only, though Undead briefly spoke Common) but that was only in very early beta and was never around in the post-launch days.
You can blame the internet’s propensity to abuse things and griefing for that.
You may be confusing the beginning of WoW with EverQuest. I remember spamming my family members back and fourth to learn orc and troll languages back then.
Heh i remember doing that too
spamming language macros to train them
You couldn’t learn any languages in vanilla, what are you people talking about? Undead had Common as their secondary language instead of Gutterspeak, that’s it.
How could they say no?
If I’m not mistaken some other languages were able to be learned, such as infernal (demons).
Outside of flavor items/spells, i don’t think that was ever a thing.
Ironfoe and Curse of Tongues comes to mind.
I remember at least in BC you could learn the other languages, i just don’t remember how.
I think you are remembering EverQuest?
Far as i know, the concept of learning another’s language was a beta thing that did not survive the jump to PTR
LMAO no you couldn’t.
In SWTOR I remember this being a thing, but, per WoWWiki, "The ability for player characters to learn additional languages was planned early in World of Warcraft but was not developed, likely due to the tendency of cross-faction communication to be insulting and profane. It seems unlikely that this functionality (learning additional languages) will ever be added. The Forsaken were originally able to speak Common and communicate with Alliance players, but this was removed with the introduction of Gutterspeak due to, once again, the tendency of cross-faction communication to be insulting and profane. "
Why was this necro’d twice?
Well…
See it all started with the Burning Legion and this idiot named Ner’Zhul
Darn. I was on a quest and found a group of Alliance players… they spoke [Common] and I just stood around confused. Would’ve been nice if we could communicate, but at the same time there are a lot of people out there who would love to insult the other faction.
