I heard people say that in the lore, Varian Wrynn returns to lead Stormwind once again as their king when Onyxia is defeated. Since he’s not in vanilla WoW, when did Blizzard officially add him into the game? Just curious, I always thought Varian Wrynn was a cool character in the Warcraft series.
BTW, I’m not talking about when he was imprisoned by the Defias, I’m talking about the Varian NPC that looks as he did in the Legion cinematic with his sword and all.
Wrath of the lich king, he was captured by dragonkin just outside jaina’s house for like 10 years.
Then just magically showed up one day at the end of burning crusade if I remember right 2.4.3
He was in the Alcatraz Island in a cave back in Vanilla. Dont know if he’s there in Classic wow.
He’s got the guild tag < King of Stormwind > or something like that. His atire is not impressive and his character model is standard human unlike the updated Wrath of the Litch King model used.
The island I am talking about is North by North East of Theramore if you want to go look.
Went to the bottom of the island when I was bored a couple weeks ago. Guess he is no longer there after 1.09 and since we started on 1.12 he wasn’t there to begin with since classic started. There is a named Naga though. Only pita part was just the extra length in kiting the Weebil goons.
I remember watching a video YEARS ago in which someone found him on a sunken boat somewhere with a group of other alliance characters in which he had a perma bubble (can’t remember if it was Pali or Priest) I don’t remember what patch this was, or the guy’s YouTube channel (if it’s even still up) but that’s what I remember!
Well we get the missing diplomat quest chain which ends in dustwallow marsh, but I think in actual lore he’s a prisoner on Alcaz, I think all his armor and weapons are gone while he’s being held on the island.
It’s a shame the quest chain doesn’t go into more details about him.
As a side bit Varian was a student under Anduin Lothar, which he was rumored to wield Ashkandi.
If you hover over Ashkandi in game it says something like “the initials A L are on the hilt”.
