When is the WF totem better?

Hey guys

So I’ve been enjoying enhancement but for ourselves doom winds burst is every 1 min. I suspect that elemental does better big hits and possibly better uptime since if we have to move we can run and cast frost shock even if everything else is on cd.

I was wondering how many melee we need with us before having a windfury totem down helps the team or raid before we start to overtake ele in damage. The raid I’m working with has mostly casters and it’s a fury warrior, a death knight, a rogue, and 2 tanks now with the rest being casters.

Thanks for any input.

Having an enhancement shaman is incredibly useful mainly for arms warriors, and frost deathknights. That provides a rather substantial boost to dps given they have proc rates based on auto attacks/rage generation. Its a decent increase for most every other melee especially blood dk as their mastery increases attack power and melee is general rather high on the damage meters for most melee classes.

But play whatever is more fun for you, it doesn’t sound like your group will benefit much from windfury, but they also don’t gain anything from an ele shaman unless you perform significantly better as ele than enhance.

Arms warriors currently get the biggest benefit, almost as much as 8%.
Most every other melee gets at least 3 to 4% dps increase. This applies to tanks as well, however, it helps tanks to build more threat, cooldown abilities, generate resources and so forth which can help them stay alive longer too.

I would go so far as saying that every raid group should have at least 1. WFT is as good as mystic touch or chaos brand for the group it’s in, if not better, but because WFT is only group wide it’s far better in dungeons than it is raids

That being said, an equally equipped ele and enh will compete for dps quite equally in raid, but ele does not provide any group or raid utility that enhance does not, and some fights are pretty bad for ele whilst none are really “bad” for enhancement.

There are some fights where ele will pull ahead, and some where enh will pull ahead, but it also depends on your skill as both specs have a high skill cap compared to other classes.
