When is MDI going away?

I’m no 60’s “Mad Men” advertising executive, but I don’t see a single logo of any significant business sponsoring MDI.

The usual suspects? (Usually sponsoring most sports)
No Coca Cola
No Mc’Donalds
No Gillette
No Duracell

Also, I still haven’t seen these players participate in huge stadiums a la ‘league of legends’ or with astronomical viewership numbers a la ‘EVO’.

Finally, it’s ruining the game and the way it’s played.

With all this said, this brings up another question, ‘wtf is exactly the purpose of MDI’?

I don’t think ‘there aren’t enough corporate hands in this pot’ is a negative point this day in age.

the prize poll is only 300k
pool distributed amongst the best eight teams as set forth in the table below.

Oh ok, well, ‘corporate hands in this pot’ help pay the bills, or the players of a sport.

I’m just going to assume all these players love MDI and that’s why they do it without financial incentives.

Compared to other e-sports = pennies.

Id hope not anytime soon. Been watching some of this one and its been fun.

and with the sponsoring
its a risk they take from what i read they would need to shell out money for a high end computers mouse keyboard ect…

It’s for people who somehow managed to end up in life situations years prior that didn’t require them to work, so they spent those years playing wow. But then to be faced with newer expenses and pressures as an adult, only for them to be defeated by players who were doing the first statement even better. Which then leads said players to turn to “alternative income sources” in order to make ends meet, sources that use their wow play history/skill/network. Cause lets me be honest nobody wants to watch a piece of expressionless wood repeatedly spam 25-30 keys on streams (hence low viewership other than 1-3 broadcasters).

Uhh you do realize theres people that have made tons of money off playing video games right? Heck wow has quite a few streamers who make hecktons just off doing random stuff.

And the ones who don’t make money from tournaments for blizz games usually turn to rmt or try harder in streaming. Which usually means carrying subs/donators through content.

I don’t care for games that are not managed by blizz. Those companies have shown themselves to be able to pay well for competitions.

Also wow is a just glorified just chatting section on twitch.

Ill be honest I have no idea what your point is.

That’s your fault for not reading.

First of all, brand sponsorship should be considered advertising budget for the brand, and none of those brands you mentioned really resonate with younger people.

Maybe soda, but who wants to be the McDonald’s or Gillette team. Duracell? Do teenagers pay for batteries in their house? If the goal is younger millennials, are eco conscious young adults buying old school disposable batteries or are they buying rechargable?

The MDI isn’t going away, but they do need to work on format. A single match is about 90min-2hrs because they are running 3 dungeons per pair. That’s just too long when you consider how many matches are in finals.

Easy solution would just be to break up the finals a little more, or maybe have some single round elimination instead of best of three.

The banning process for removing dungeons from play is also pretty toxic. Limits variety for spectators and narrows the win condition for newer teams to have an upset against the top end teams picking out which dungeons are allowed.

So the big question, what is MDI?
