When is it Time to Star Over?

This patch has made it obvious that this engine, the code, etc. is really sensitive at this point. One of the longest testing phases on the PTR and when it went live it broke a bunch of stuff. It seems like each new patch brings in a new group of other bugs. I know coding is one of those things where a little change here or there can affect different code in ways no one expected. I assume as code grows, it gets more and more likely to happen as that code and systems grow.

So, is it time for Blizzard to consider making WoW 2? Building it from the ground up, updating the graphics, systems, etc.? FFXIV did it when it replaced FFXI. It did it again with A Realm Reborn. Armor, environments, player housing, a dye system, I think it all looks better and sure that’s completely subjective, but WoW might be showing its age.

So, is it time? If so, do they just change the engine and add new and different systems while continuing the storyline? Or do they finally wrap it up and we see a new era in the Storyline, one that we haven’t seen before, except for maybe seeds?

First: I would like to know what a “star over” is? Like is it time to throw a star over it or?

2nd: kidding aside, I think we needed a new engine and coding since legion when that dalaran loading/lagging mess was a thing (thank god for ssd)

I don’t think a limited engine has much to do with what this patch has to offer. They have done more with a worse engine in the past, and gave players a higher quality play experience with way more replay value.

They need to fire the whole design team and get some fresh ideas from new ones. The main attractions of 8.3 are a joke.

I doubt there will ever be a WoW 2. They will beat this dead horse until the last dollar and then call it quits. MMORPGs are sadly a thing of the past. They’re not nearly as profitable that days of old.

LOlolololol. Yeah sure ok.

I mean, they aren’t dead yet, but the genre as a whole is on its way out the door. What we have now is mostly MMOs minus the RPG element. Obviously there are some exceptions though, but nothing lasts forever.

It’s too far along to start over.

The game itself is still fairly functional but 8.3 is suffering from the last of QA at the company. It’s just a matter of ensuring more resources are allocated to it for Shadowlands.

They’ve sacrificed 8.3.5 to make it happen so let’s hope they do a good job.

I don’t think so. You’re forgetting the 800 people Bobby-boy canned after the record revenues. Among those was a good number of Q&A people, the people that are supposed to catch this kind of stuff. It boggles the mind that they’d let go of Q/A people knowing they are coming up on not only a content patch, but also the alpha/beta for the next expansion.

The engine and code have been updated. The problem isn’t that. The problem is THE COMPANY.

Blizzard isn’t good anymore. Bad leadership. There is certainly talent at Blizzard, but not at the overall decision and design level. And, obviously, they cut QA and CS to the bone…and that always hurts the end product.

A WoW 2 made by this company at this point in time would likely be awful.

Nah, some games are still growing, and there’s more and more being made each year AND some major players are entering the field. It’s bigger than every in every aspect.

This myth again. Of the 800 people let go only a very small fraction belonged to anything Warcraft and even fewer Q&A folks.

Stop spreading misinformation and do some research before making major claims like this.

MMORPGs across the board are hemorrhaging players. I’m not sure how that’s deniable?

EWO and FF14 are gaining record users and new subs. There are more new MMO’s and MMORPG’s coming our yearly, but US and worldwide. The total market for MMO players is larger than literally ever in the history of the internet. What you say is completely deniable because it’s objectively wrong in absolutely every way.

I honestly think they should wrap up the MMO part of Warcraft and go back to RTS.

This is true for every game ever made.

I dont recall a previous patch being this BAD before

You must not have been around when patches could cause the game to be down for 24 hrs+ then.

OP, the games engine and code are fine. There is no need to start over as the current game is also fine.

Yes. Exactly. So when is it time to start over?

Considering there isn’t a rollback I think this patch is quite successful compared to previous ones that did.
