  • Corruptions go away with prepatch
  • Cloak becomes a stat stick, with no corruption resistance and no main stat proc
  • Azerite gear and essences will still work on Azeroth, but not in Shadowlands content
  • Neck will become a stat stick in Shadowlands content

Worth noting that new characters going into BFA content after the patch will NOT get a Heart of Azeroth, nor will they get Azerite gear. Instead quests that rewarded azerite will either offer gold or neck slot rewards and quests that offered azerite gear will offer normal items for those slots.

I still find it weird that the ā€œbuild around featureā€ of the expansion is being essentially removed. I think it’s a good choice, in the case of azerite gear, because that never really worked as a system, it just seems strange to go from ā€˜this is such an important element that we’re building the expansion around it’ to ā€˜yeah, you know…nobody needs that’ is a bizarre decision IMO.

It would be like completely removing covenants…not just the abilities, but the covenants themselves…when 10.0 drops. The azerite subplot was our whole reason for going to KT/Zan.

I cannot wait. I dont even want to play alts until pre patch hits because the cloak and neck are enormous bottlenecks to actually being relevant.

Well for new characters there’s really no point in getting it.

The expansion is just about over and no azerite traits or heart of azeroth essences will be usable in Shadowlands zones. Normally I’m against Blizzard removing content like this (I objected heavily to them removing the legendary cloak from MoP and the legendary ring from WoD) but in this case, I don’t really mind it.

I don’t mind either, and I think it will lead to a much better leveling experience. Particularly for the new players they’ll be funneling into BfA, who will leave the start zone and get an earful of faction propaganda, and therefore not NEED the azerite excuse for the war (unlike those of us who had just been sharing class halls with the other faction for two years).

Still seems weird to admit the build-around feature was pretty much unnecessary to the expansion experience, though.

…and what are players going to do for neck, helm, shoulder, and chest slots?

They’ll get normal gear for those slots, all of which will have secondary stats just like gear for other slots (all quest rewards that previously rewarded azerite gear just offer normal versions of those same items). Crafting professions are also getting items for those slots added.

Damn I haven’t finished farming horrific visions for the backpack yet, I wonder how my 445 DH will do with the nerf

When you open Nazjatar your neck is bumped to 50 and cloak quest line depending on your spec is 2 -3 hours so I don’t know how thats a huge bottleneck

getting ur cloak to rank 15 isnt so instant tho. and the proc is kinda big

Getting your cloak to 15, getting all your essences, getting the corruptions that you need.

Getting the cloak and base neck is easy, the rest of it is what takes forever.

im glad BFA is over. Build around is over. well…SL build around…here we go.

:man_shrugging:

The cloak proc still works in the pre-patch and will likely continue to work in old world content (time walking etc). It won’t work in shadowlands zones.

Can’t go away soon enough.

Basically how it should have been in the beginning of BfA

Interesting.

I have 5 Chatacters with a 15 Cloak. I have been debating getting my 2nd Warlocks cloak to 15 incase it helps for leveling in Shadowlands. The Legion Legendaries bonus effects worked well into BfA leveling, so I figured the cloak proc might. But they might turn it off completely. So I have been on the fence about getting one more Alt to 15.

Interesting.

I would have only leveled that cloak to make Shadowlands leveling easier with the Main Stat Proc. But if that is removed for Shadowlands content, I can ignore it. Nice.
