So last x-pac Jaina “expresses her disappointment” in current events and walks off camera for the x-pac while the Burning Legion is threatening the planet and we get a seemingly metric ton of “Jaina is a dreadlord” stuff.
Now this x-pac Khadgar “expresses his disappointment” in current events and walks off camera while a giant sword plunged into the planet threatens said planet and the two factions able to do anything about it go for a genocidal war instead of focusing on that problem and we aren’t getting “Khadgar is a dreadlord” why?
Aside from us all being guilty of Khadgar-Bias of course.
Khadgar actually had a line or two about going to look for solutions in the libraries of Karazhan. Given that Karazhan is supposed to have lots of information on ancient magics and what not, he’s got a pretty solid excuse for having stepped out of the spotlight.
Pretty much this. Unlike Jaina, whose actions off-screen and “aid” were not even stated until well after the expansion was over, Khadgar has a library with hundreds of thousands of books to look through for solutions.
That, and Khadgar is just a million times more likable. Personally, I think he’s one of the only truly well written characters in this stupid game, despite people saying he’s a typical savior type. Contrarily, he makes mistakes often, quickly tries to solve them, and admits to wrongdoings. That and he’s the only high level mage in the lore that actually wields magic like how it’s implied in lore; volatile and dangerous, and not to be slapped around recklessly or used so easily. All the quests on Draenor related to the Legendary Ring were rife with both hilarious and insightful looks into just how complicated powerful arcane magic works, to the point where one of the quests, he warns you “Now this MIGHT…kill you a bit”.
Well to begin with that would make him like the worst Dreadlord ever, seeing how Khadgar was a big role in putting a stop to the Legion Invasion that led to Sargeras being thrown into the penalty box.
Also noping out to try and focus on the potentially bigger problem at hand is a good excuse, while Jaina’s was an idiotic conspiracy theory that just to defeat the Alliance the Horde would side with the Legion.
The Horde also resoundingly proved Jaina wrong since we didn’t start villaining until after the Legion was dealt with.
Sounds the alarm that leads to the Broken Shore, which he conveniently sits out.
Lobbies to give the Evil Team of Evil access once more to the world’s foremost magical city, sows division amongst the Kirin Tor, and instigates events that cause the story’s protagonist to leave Dalaran.
Uses said magic city to orchestrate events eventually leading to Sargeras’ fall, ending the Dreadlord’s servitude to him, and freeing them up to go back to serving the Void.
IIRC wasn’t it Jesse Cox and Crendor that popularized it? Or maybe Pride and Nordrassil Radio? Or both. I think they worked together for a bit back in those days.
