When do priests start getting fun?

I’ve been playing Classic, primarily, when I feel like playing WoW, mostly because I wanted to experience an actual Shadowpriest again. But gotta tell you, it is daunting to say the least. Every mob seems to be a challenge, getting me down to at least half health with Inner Fire, Renew, Touch of Weakness, and an occasional Lesser Heal. Yet, I see rogues around my level popping up and stabbing mobs a couple times and moving on. I’m wondering when priests actually start leveling out, if at all, in terms of survivability and fun.

I’m curious about this too. Priest is the only class out of the original nine that I’ve never been able to get into.

improved wand is the way to go until you can get shadowform at 40.

WHEN DO PRIESTS START GETTING FUN?

When they get shadow form.

If you have to ask when something gets fun, it won’t ever get fun. Reroll immediately and save the effort.

Jeez. It is a painful existence, that’s for sure. None of the talent points seem effective and I can barely afford to learn spells

priest survivability is insane are u srs right now… those rogues are probably alts with fiery enchants on both weapons

the only problem is not having cc for those quest mobs who like to roam in groups

Nah, it’s wild how much more fun priest becomes when you equip a wand.

I had a lot of fun leveling my priest. This is my main so feel free to AMA…

Basic leveling advice is this:

5 points in wands, 5 points in spirit tap, take any other talents you want. I would recommend Imp PWS and maybe Imp SWP (debatable).

At level 40, respec into 31 Shadow and pick up shadowform, then build out to 5 points in wands again. Then build out the Disc tree and pick up Inner Focus and Concentration.

You can heal any dungeon up to level 55 or so if you have a competent group. In BRD I finally started to struggle with mana and keeping the party up in longer fights. So I respecced 31 disc at that point and went full heals.

That did me well for a long time, but eventually I went 21/30 Holy when we started BWL.

I still respec shadow when I want to go farm and kill stuff or fight in PVP. I also managed to grind R10 during the covid… So now I have the full pvp blue set and I positively smash!

You don’t roll shadow prior to 40. That’s a beginner’s trap. You get spirit tap, wand spec, renew, basically put points everywhere. You don’t dedicate to shadow until 40 when you can get shadowform, and you’ll still put the next 5 into wand spec. Wanding is very important as a priest. It boosts your free damage and helps you get spirit taps while not casting, which means more mana returned.

Priest leveling is awesome. Get a wand (there’s 1 enchanters can make that’s req. level 5) and go into Wand Specialization. You can seriously just Mind blast -> swp -> wand -> Alt tab and read these forums -> mob is dead.

So… level 5?

If you get one as early as possible, yes.

Leveling a priest was one of the fastest for me. Get the wand talents, get the strongest wand you can, I remember getting the quest reward wand from doing Blackfathom Deeps at around level 18 or 19, whatever it is. You just melt everything with SWP + wanding, pre shielding, you shouldn’t even be taking damage to your hp pool.

I hear Mind control is reason enough to roll a priest. Otherwise you’re just a squishy wannabe paladin without any muscles like yours truly.

I’m mostly Holy spec, but I found it fun from the start. I haven’t tried Shadow though
