For me it was the end of cata when they added raid finder. From there on out the game has gone through ups and downs, mostly downs, Legion was a nice expac but the over all experience over these years is just sad.
Why do you still play a game you haven’t found fun in nearly a decade?
I am still having fun. Sorry you aren’t.
Isn’t it crazy how people claim they haven’t had fun for so long, yet continue to pay to sub?
Never since I’m still having fun. If I stop having fun I’m not going to keep playing the game.
Uh yesterday in classic. Went and raided ashenvale with some of my people. We didn’t burn their tree or anything but the slaughter was a good one!
I haven’t stopped having fun as of yet. Maybe one day though.
changing fury to the rampage playstyle really killed it for me. i loved the spec from vanilla through every change they made to it. but with rampage you just build rage, press rampage to dump it, and repeat. meat cleaver should be a duration rather than charges
i somehow fell into healing after the fury change, and turned out to be pretty good at it. i had a great time with disc in antorus, and resto druid in m+, but i still feel like fury is my character. i’ve played every class/spec at endgame over the years, but without fury, i just don’t feel like i have a place in the game
so i resub wow between poe leagues to heal keys, and really do enjoy that a lot. but without fury i don’t care to raid or play on a schedule. i don’t care to do the chores or chase bis or anything like that. those things used to be enjoyable because this is an rpg, and even if i didn’t like doing the dailies, they were rewarding because i wanted that character progression
Mists of Pandaria wasn’t enjoyable… I ended up taking a break for some months twice during that expansion.
WoD at least was lucrative. Legion was easy and lucrative. BFA was generally fine for me, though the piddly amounts of rep we get on most world content was noted and not wildly appreciated.
Trying to relive past glory and hope that with each expac that change will come. I am a idiot for thinking so but I do so anyway.
It periodically is fun but over the years it has gotten to be less fun. A few impacting areas have basically ruined the experience for me.
First big hit was probably removing /follow in PvP. One of my favorite activities dual boxing or three boxing was running BGs. I had some great back and forth battles that I could spin up and do whenever and the guys I was up against had a blast too. They even said as much!
The next big hit was pathfinder. I really hate their view on flying now. That it isn’t worth supporting out of the gate. They could easily incorporate flight into the world in a free form way that players could be more engaged with. Hopefully they change their minds on that.
The next big hit was world quests. They’re fine for about 2 weeks. After that it’s a chore. A second job to keep up.
The next big hit was sadly M+. For all the love people have for the dungeon design since M+ I can’t share in that. Most of my classes sucked balls for M+. For reference blood dk (lesser), resto shaman and warlock. Those are my favorite classes and for one reason or another they just weren’t good. M+ focuses a very specific type of encounter. One where speed is everything and routines to AoE cleave, AoE stun and provide a huge assortment of utilities. Mechanically so they’ve been more and more complicated so it’s been not so fun but class vs encounter design in this setting has been bad.
The next I’d say is visions. I didn’t like it. I felt like that same mechanical creep I disliked about M+ existed in visions. Why is movement the big deal? Why is it we always go through this loop of movement heavy > casters suck > never mind just cleave. It’s a guarantee at this point that Shadowlands won’t be so annoyingly movement specific like BFA.
Then well, itemization sucks. I don’t enjoy it. I like most people prefer well defined specs that perform adequately out of the gate. I like having goals in the world in places and extended goals in the content I like to run. I don’t want to PvP (especially now) for my BIS dungeon gear. I want to login and start right in dungeons if that’s what I prefer doing.
That said the biggest dent in my enjoyment was the removal of rep tabards. I loathe world quests. I seriously hate them right along with mission tables. I do not consider that fun content but required content. More things to do is not the equal of fun things to do. If I want to run dungeons until my eyes bleed that’s my business. The game used to be good at this but isn’t so much anymore and that’s because they gutted the rewards in dungeons.
when corruptions got added
After Mists.
Mists class design was amazing.
Ever since then I’ve been desperately looking for a class that is at least somewhat as fun as Mists was and the closest I’ve found is Warrior.
Also I miss vengeance.
For me, MoP was the last ‘fun’ expansion.
Since then the game was been slipping for me.
WoD started okay. But the cut at the end killed the story arcs.
Legion was a nice return of some things. But, I was never a big fan of Illidan, and did not like him taking center stage away from the other characters.
BfA…the less said the better.
Why do I still play?
The community of friends I do things with (and just chill with)…and I really enjoy the art design…(but not so much the armor sets of BfA)
It didn’t, that’s why I’m still playing and paying the sub fee for it.
Mists of Pandaria / Legion when Blizzard went overboard with dailies and time gates.
Why would I still be here if I wasn’t having fun?
Blizz has always had huge time gates, don’t really understand the argument. Isle of quel’danis or 2 months to unlock NORMAL ICC?
The moment you put it into my mind, OP. Thanks a lot.
I don’t hate WoW completely. But I can say some time around MoP I stopped raiding because it began to feel more like a second job than a fun hobby. But that is something I put on the community and how it changed, not something I can blame Blizzard for.
