When did it stop being fun?

Lost interest in mop and wod, only played until max level then quit. Legion captivated me again, played the entire expansion and bfa as well so far. I’ll also play classic when it’s out, but casually. Mostly leveling and professions

exactly dude, I actually loved Legion, hardly played MOP, didnt play draenor, BFA just feels bad, it’s not fun, cant wait for classic.

legion for me even tho wod was bad it had decent class design and i did a lot of pvp on my enhancement shaman.in legion and after they killed the spec.

I started playing five months prior to TBC release, I actually enjoyed TBC as much as I did Vanilla. If there were no flying things will be, especially world pvp, more fun. Things for me begin to go downhill with the release of WotLK and the Cataclysm that ruined everything for me. I began to play Rift at that time and since then never felt belong to Azeroth again as once I was.

I play now and then because my wife who I met in game was still playing. But I should admit the game is not fun, I just play for pvp. Now we both unsubscribed and waiting for our beloved game.

I had fun until after Lich King. TBC was my favorite. I didn’t like anything after that except for the one giant battleground they added where there were different events and bosses spawning at different times. I forget the name but I think it was in WoD. I know most people hated that, but I thought it was a blast. I liked the welfare PvP gear, didn’t bother me.

Wrath is when it started going downhill for me and Cata killed most of my interest. I would come back for about a month each expansion after Wrath but would never stick around. Vanilla and TBC were the best times for me.

I’ve been playing wow since vanilla and I continue to play today in a somewhat lesser capacity. I have played through every expansion, even WoD. Parts of the game have died along the way, but if you want my honest opinion of what has truly destroyed wow in terms of its identity?

The WoW token… the game IS pay to win now. Yes I understand that you could always buy gold but by creating a legitimate avenue to buy gold and eliminating the stigma of participating in the process they have drastically increased the amount of people that buy gold. I myself included have bought wow tokens before when I wanted things like Blade of Hannah (I only buy things after having exhausted myself farming for them for months). I never bought gold from 3rd parties at any point in time before buying gold from blizzard.

Go on to any live wow server right now and every chat channel is filled with level 1’s spamming “Top U.S. guild selling Mythic +, Full Mythic BoDA carries, [Battle of Drazar’alor Hero Achievement] full achievement runs. PST.”

Blizzard keeps talking about wanting to reduce the amount of gold in the game by implementing “gold sinks” yet the mobs that I kill still drop 3 silver. Mounts that cost 333,333g…2,000,000…4,000,000g…who are these mounts targeted towards?? The 99% of players who don’t have that kind of money or the 1% of players who are selling the carries… taking advantage of a social dynamic created by blizzard implementing a “look see I did it” achievement?

I’m not saying that carries didn’t exist before the wow token… but the player actually had to earn the gold in game (ignoring people who bought gold from 3rd parties) in order to pay for them… that is not pay to win.

It was LFR that made me lost interest in WoW. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back when it came to community.

I picked up WoW again in Legion and … really enjoyed it. I found a raiding guild and ran hardcore with them for about 6 months.

I still enjoy retail. It’s a different game than Classic. Which will I play this summer? Classic. Which will I play this fall. 90% chance of classic.

Late wrath of the lich king, when they added cataclysm talents.
Though I had a few times in ICC that didn’t really feel like wow anymore.

When Wrath launched, the game turned into a tedious slog. Leveling felt like you started from zero again in a completely new game.

That is another part of it for me, but probably not the same problem. For me, pvp died in season 3 when it became a full blown esport…

Hashnochange. :joy: love it

The last three times it wasn’t fun so I took at least a six month break:

MoP, the year straight of Garrosh. I got a few timeless items then sat that one out.
WoD, toward the end or maybe midway. Anyhow there was literally nothing to do but pug raid, and it was the pits. The toxicity and continually seeing people get kicked for low dps after the first boss and no one died just did me in. I didn’t even come back until well into Legion.

End of Legion, Launch of BfA. I grinded Argussian rep for a void elf, did the grind as a shadow priest, made the new character a shadow priest, boosted it, ran dungeons until I was in full blues but still felt weak, and just suffered terrible burnout. That rep grind really threw me the wrong way. If you’d have asked me six months ago I’d have said I was never coming back.

Yet here I am, mostly waiting for classic and slightly enjoying retail as a mage (no Shadow this expansion for me). There’s nothing really keeping me in the game right now but for the fact that I can’t seem to find a video game that isn’t worse than or barely equal to retail, to be honest. I’m definitely not going to start fresh in a different MMO with Classic on it’s way, so retail will have to do until then.

I just got in a friendly guild. It makes a difference.

for me it was when blizzard started caving in to the whiny players who demanded everything for no effort…

also PvP scaling really annoyed the crap out of me…

if you dont want to get 1 shot by my character who has been at max level 50x longer than yours and has gear from a god then put in some effort… but no blizzard took my accomplishments away from me by making them essentially meaningless.

Around Firelands it died for me, in Cata

For me, it stopped being fun in Warlords. Legion made it worse. BFA’s just more of the same.

Somewhere in tbc when i was doing dailies.

All the scientists, engineers and maths majors are losing their minds. For the love of god we need some axes.

Deathgrip was the beginning of the end for me. The design of the ability influenced many other changes that overall destroyed the game and caused enormous imbalance issues.

I see WoW similarly to the whole DB/Z/GT series.

Vanilla is Dragon Ball
Burning Crusade is Dragon Ball Z
WoTLK is Dragon Ball GT

Cata->BFA is Deviant art erotic fan fiction of Goku, Cell, and Master Roshi.

Firelands was the only raid I thought was acceptable in Cata. I didn’t mind the Blackwing one either. They where nothing compared to TBC raids though.

Quite at the end of Legion when i realised that my gameplay is not the worth anymore compared to other classes. You could pick up anyone with this class and do good if not even too good. I’m always someone who wants to be different than others in terms of skill and my class and also want at the same time to be sucessful with it.

I came back when BFA release came and was actually playing a lot again and had some quite of fun, but when Season 2 released this was the corn for me. When i just saw how bad class design has gotten and how devs do not give a crap about pvp anymore. It also showed the declining numbers in queues which i did experience at higher rating.

I was thinking of coming back at 8.2 again but the patch looks pretty bad more time gating stuff, pve in order to be succesful to pvp, class design remains crap. nothing to come back for. In WoD and any expansion before i had still tons of fun.

So i just wait for classic. PvE Classic is a lot of more fun than current PvP/legion pvp.
