What's your ideas of making Azerite more fun?

And i don’t mean removing it, i mean actually improve upon it. While i have been a bit of a grump to this concept, it’s cause there is potential to expand upon this to make it a better system then it is now and its yet to be seized. I’l start with my ideas on how to improve upon it.

• have Azerite be tied to professions in someway. You know, like Mining Azerite ores that is in the world an obvious one. Picking Azerite flowers, flowers that been mutated from the exposed azerite, Skinning animals that eaten azerite… cause i don’t know, they think it’s food. Surveying for big drops of Azerite in Archeology, making stuff in engineering to drill into the earth to mind azerite like oil, Alchemy to… make… azerite potions… blacksmithing where you can take the unsmelted azerite and turn them into azerite bars, enchanting to enchant your armor to get more azerite, dischanting azerite pieces nets you a small amount of azerite, etc. Really, you can get imaginative with this.

• Have a full set of Azerite armor pieces rather then just Chest, Shoulders and Head. Like the Feet, Wrist, Waist, Pants, Rings, Hands, Trinkets, Cloaks, all that.

• Have some vendors in the world to sell you limited Azerite for your necklace if you have the gold.

• Lower the prices of Azerite reforging, so it wouldn’t be too costly if you chose the wrong talent. Or maybe just make it to where the armor piece remember what choice you picked on that spec. Say like if i picked rupture on my assassination rogue, then i go outlaw, the whole thing will be cleared for that spec so i can choose the pistol shot bonus. switch it back, vola! it’s rupture!

• Get a little bit of azerite for your necklace from scraping azerite armor.

• Allow neck enchants on the necklace.

• While i’m at it, have the neck have it’s own talent ring, but instead of picking what abilities to upgrade, you pick which goes in the rings, like for example, the first ring, 5% versatility, 5% mastery, 5% crit, and 5% haste. Second ring below that will be like 5% leech, 5% avoidance, and 5% movement speed. Third will be 5% max resource (like focus, rage, mana, engery, etc) or will be 5% primary stat plus 5% stamina. and fourth will be a gem slot.

• Have Azerite armor itself to have unique designs found nowhere in the game, with some azerite bits on it or etc. And it can be a nice little set on it’s own, for the cosmetic hunters.

• And throwing a bone for the pet battlers out there, have like a rare chance of little azerite shard pets show up, weather in battle or out in the world to either capture or kill (capture awards more azerite).

Those are my ideas, i like to hear yours.

Tbh the only issue I have with Azerite is the backwards progression nonsense that’s getting fixed in 8.2. It’s not a system I particularly enjoy because I like having an end goal rather than a perpetually moving goalpost, but that aspect isn’t gonna change, it’s just the same thing as Legion AP.

The necklace feels fairly empty as far as I’ve been able to tell.

Artifacts got more powerful as you leveled them up. The Heart doesn’t; it just lets you use more Azerite traits. But you don’t unlock new traits or passives, you just keep reusing from the same pool of traits. It’s pretty dumb.

I have no idea how you make it better short of giving the Heart a skill tree and baking the Artifact talents into the specs in some way other than using a talent point on them.

If you’re Ion, probably add another ring would be the answer?

To be honest, i have seen the heart get higher in ilvl after i leveled it up, which in turn gives you better stats. Granted it minuscule in comparison and that’s about it about the heart.

If i were him, that shouldn’t be the only answer.

I want to see ideas on how to improve upon it. Your ideas on how to improve on azerite. (and also your opinion on mine as well, to create a discussion) And i know it’s all fun to rag on Azerite, and believe me, it is. It’s a watered down Artifact system. But that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be removed outright, what it needs is improvement. Significant improvement.

the trait system is a mess imo

having to make sure i have 1 of this trait and that trait and that trait is annoying because to use one azerite piece you need to make sure you have all these traits but replacing your helmet means you lose the single stack of your best trait that you only want exactly one of

so you can’t wear this chest unless you wear these shoulders and blah blah why is it so stupid

just let me pick them or something. it’s awful. some traits are just significantly weaker and feel bad to pick.

i should never think gross when selecting something that is supposed to increase my characters power. that’s a sign that something is messed

I would remove all except the last circle of azerith, then make it so it changes depending of your spec then make it so there’s only 1 trait from each raid. Finally, I would call those tier pieces, but that may be preposterous.

I would completely remove the Azerite Armor pieces (Helmet, Shoulder, Chest), shifting all of the Azerite Traits into the amulet instead – which would likely require that each Azerite Trait be roughly tripled in power.

Then, for the next expansion, I’d go back to what worked: Artifact Weapons.

Edit: And while I’m thinking about it, it’s mildly disheartening that Blizzard went through like 18 months of iteration until its functioning was basically a work of art – only to decide, “hey, let’s try something entirely new!”.

Why couldn’t Artifact Weapons, after being disinherited of the power accrued throughout Legion, have been maintained and then reinvigorated by Azerite? Who wouldn’t have liked an Azerite-infused Ashkandi or an Azerite-infused Apocalypse?

I think there needs to be a reward at every level, like there was with Artifacts. In Legion, it always felt good when I hit a new Artifact level - but in BfA, the majority of the time I level the neck up and nothing happens. I’m either waiting several more levels to unlock the next trait, or I’ve already unlocked everything and I’m just gaining levels for a future headstart on gear that doesn’t exist yet. It makes me really not care about leveling the heart up, but if I ignore it I end up being behind and unable to use my gear when the next raid hits.

To be honest, that’s actually better then my “full set” idea. Granted, we still have one artifact, and i’m honestly not sure about removing the armor pieces, personally i would have the both of those worlds, a skill tree on the amulet ala artifact weapons, with the azerite armor being pretty much minor stat bonuses or abilities upgrade.

My guess is… well i was gonna say “they don’t want to rehash what they did” but honestly, i have no idea why they couldn’t go with that. Also again, personally speaking, have both.

Removing Azerite would be an improvement though. But if you want a different answer then the only thing to do is to quadruple the amount of Azerite needed per level and to increase the ring count to 10.

Personally I wish there was a way to “socket” individual traits into a piece of armor similar to how relics worked on the artifact weapons. More customization is better.

Kill it. Kill it with fire.

Move any decent traits into class abilities or talents, prune the ones that are useless, make azerite into a simple resource you can spend to upgrade gear. Done.

Unlock the damned traits from the neck level.

I hate Azerite. I don’t like carrying around multiple sets in my bags. Hogs up space tbh and it’s hard to keep organized.
