What's your favorite part of Warcraft lore?

This might be the whiskey talking, but all of it.

I love all of it. The good, the bad, and the ugly troggs.

I’m still looking forward to the Voidlands expac where we find the God-husk chassis constructed out of a cracked bowl, spoiled hotdog, grandma’s old dancin’ pantyhose, and a pillowcase stuffed with wet dog hair.

Somehow that imagery is both funny and terrifying at the same time. Fitting for a Void based expansion :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Prolly learning about how the Blood Elves came to be, I remember being fascinated by the TBC cinematic and itching to create my first ever character which was a blood elf paladin which I still Main today. Then learning about Sylvanas and how she fell, defending Quel’Thalas until Arthas tore her soul out and made her into the banshee we all knew and loved. Continuing the questline into Silverpine is and was still my fave part of the game I always do the questline on every horde toon I have. Then there’s the void elves, and learning how they’re exiled from Silvermoon after the Blood Elves joined the Horde, I remember being so ecstatic to create a void elf because my 3 Initial main toons are elves (besides my Forsaken toon) and how Sylvanas‘ sister, Alleria now leads them as part of the Alliance. That’s pretty much what I can think of lol :bow_and_arrow::black_heart:

Everything DF and onward probably.

My favorite part of wow lore is the Second war, when the Horde under Orgrim Doomhammer allied with the Amani trolls and burned through the Kingdoms of Lordaeron with Red Dragon fire. I also like that they burned parts of Quel’thalas too. The High elves during the Troll wars burned Amani warbands with mage fire, so its only fair the Horde return the favor.

The Void and Old Gods. Something about their whispers and their stories is fun to theorize.

If you exclude what Shadowlands did to it, Ner’zhuls and Kil’jaedens back and forth. How Ner’zhul succeeded in deceiving the Deceiver.

Maybe a hot take, but the draenei.

Specifically in the Rise of the Horde, and their time on Dreanor. I enjoy the draenei/orc dynamic and find them to be more tragic, compelling and complimentary foils than the classic Orc Vs Human dynamic.

I love the time WoD spent on the draenei, and I enjoy that they weren’t afraid to lean into weird draenei stuff. Crystal laser turrets, soul piloted robots. It’s great! I just wish they had time to explore more of it.

I also liked how WoD showed some healthy orc, Draenei relationships. Such as AU Rukhan and her fellow Shadowmoon outcasts.

People are going to hate me for this, but I genuinely like the First Ones stuff.

The metaphysics of a universe is always one of my favourite parts of a setting’s lore, similar to the nature of Aether and Dynamis in FFXIV, the Dragon Energy and The All in Guild Wars, the Aurbis in The Elder Scrolls, Primal Patterns and the Genesis Prime in Wildstar.

So the idea that the Cosmic Forces are actually intentionally designed metaphysical components in a universal machine that has an as-yet unknown purpose is absolutely my sort of thing, especially considering we’re experiencing what happens when they start to get a bit faulty and the maintenance crew are out for lunch

The WC3/Pre Cata core horde just felt so neat.

Repentant orcs, an extremely reasonable troll tribe, and giant colossal minotaur with hearts of gold are the great basis for a faction.

While i have nothing against the Forsaken/belves/et al, I really hate that the core trio have been direly neglected outside of villain bat time or Baine playing pursedog to Anduin/Jaina.

Just remember, the First Ones were Ducks.

Even Blizzard seems to be hinting at it with certain pieces of dialogue (such as the pvp WQ to subdue some ducks) and battle pet descriptions :stuck_out_tongue:

That is all.

Dragon Isles has left me with a somewhat nervous and unsettled disposition. Everytime I go somewhere to do something dangerous like into a cave to get a rare, there is this uncanny silence, except for the ominous background orchestra of ducks quacking.

When will they reveal their purpose!

My Favorite part were the chronicles books, especially one and two, before they were said to be just points of view of the titans. There is soooo much good stuff in there but it’s kind of tainted knowing Blizzard will retcon whatever they want from them instead of using them as lore bibles.

this is all your fault.

I really like Void related stuff, especially Old God Whispers, the Twilight’s Hammer, the Cult of the Forgotten Shadow, Xal’atath.

My favorite part would definitely be Draenor as a whole. What chronicle and WoD did with a relatively unknown world was wonderful.

I also love that it will probably remain unchanged due to there not being a need for retcons at this point.

For all that people like to hate in it, WoD did wonders for fleshing out Draenor. What they did with Draenei culture and the cultures of the various clans was wonderful.

Old Gawds ever since WW3 Azjol-Nerub shortcut. At that time I did not even know the faceless ones were old gawd minions but now it’s even cooler.
