So much of the V.O. work has a really offsetting cadence to it. It would be one thing if it was just one character but it seems like it’s systemic and most of it has been through some filter or AI generated by Slow Talker AI™
The new fake dwarfs who dont have beer anywhere are all robot people so they speak in 80s computer talk. Everyone else doesnt have an excuse
No, absolutely, it is very offputting.
This, however, is hilarious.
heeh they kinda sound like the ships computer from star trek.
Borg dwarves
(Reposting from an older thread where I answered this.)
I do a lot of work with international releases, and one of the things you have to do is budget enough time in the cut scenes so that ALL LANGUAGES have time to say what they need.
This means that some languages have to be dragged out in order to not leave empty space.
I looked up a German cut scene from Dragonflight. Go to 0:52 (it’s timestamped in my link).
It’s not nearly as bad and slow as the English version of the same scene.
(But Alexstraza is still terrible.)
The TNG computer was done by Lwaxana Troi (Gene Roddenberry wife ) and sounded fine. The TOS computer was more mechanical but didn’t have the really weird micro pauses that the V.O. does.
She was also the computer voice in the original Star Trek, btw.
Earthen are titan constructs. Titan constructs always have a slow, robotic pace to then.
I’m sure there’s truth to this, but hitherto it’s hasn’t been so noticeable.
Edicts…guide…you
Ed…ict…s … gui…deY…ou.
Each. Word. Is. Epic. And. Important
Earthen…bots….roll….out.
How dare you sully the good name of Majel Barrett.
I’ve only really noticed it with the Earthen myself. I figured it was just one of their quirks, potentially related to their origins.
Oh yay I was gonna try and mention this because I learned this from you
Depends on what you’re referring to. Some of the Earthen sound like this because they are literally robots, yes.
I haven’t noticed this with other characters.
Wait, the English version is even worse? Also it’s the same stupid intonation as every average German Netflix voice over. No one… literally NO ONE in real life speaks this way. Ever!
They speak slowly so the people who unironically use the word “woke” have a chance to keep up.
