I’m seeing a 4% spawn rate, and I’ve been tracking hard for about a month. My spreadsheets from 2011 show a 1/6 chance. This is insane.
Obviously, I’m not seeing every spawn, but I’m seeing most of them (esp the last couple of weeks). I’ve personally logged 16 Vyra kills. The last TLPD went to a friend who logged 15 kills before the TLPD showed up for him.
(Note: In 2011, I logged more than 100 Vyragosa kills and 7 TLPD kills)
BTW Some Tips:
- If you do the math, some of the times don’t add up. I count the time from the last known kill on the same layer. I’ve seen Vyra spawn on different layers a few minutes apart, so the layers are on separate timers.
- I summoned a level 1 out to Storm Peaks and killed him in a discrete spot. I use the corpse to determine which layer I’m on.
- Do not bot. I have a pet named Vyragosa, and I will report you. LOL If you’re in the opposing faction, I will let you flag yourself, and I will kill you while you’re auto-clicker is attacking my pet.
- If you kill something every hour, you won’t get the crazy disconnects. They are typically on a 1 hour timer (exactly).
- If you work on macros while you’re sitting there, be sure to relog because the hourly DC will erase them. Nothing worse than finding you death grip missing from your action bar when the TLPD shows up.
- All of the rares within Northrend are tied together. It works exactly the same as every other spawn in the game (mobs to fishing pools). You have a maximum number allowed up simultaneously and minimum cooldown after a server reset or a kill. Killing a rare anywhere in Northrend can spawn another rare elsewhere a few minutes later - UNLESS they haven’t reached their minimum CD.
- I suspect that Vyragosa was a hack because they couldn’t make the spawn timers long enough without breaking their code elsewhere. The added Vyra to make it more rare without rewriting all of their code. Blood Seeker is the same.
- In 2011, the spawn times were typically 5.5 to 22 hours. Right now, they seem to be 6-21.5 hours.
- LOOT cannot be shared, so stop group camping.
- Resets DO NOT make a spawn more likely. In fact, they appear to reset spawn timers to 0 with an unknown lower limit before anything can spawn at all.
