I presume BFA archaeology was not deliberately designed to be this ridiculous, but when I’m still 40 points shy of maxing the profession, its a tad tiresome to get a whopping 0 skill points for completing digsites and completing artifacts.
Honestly tempted to post this in the bug forum instead.

Each xpac awards skill points differently for archaeology. BfA only awards points on finds and not for completed sites or artifacts.
Eventually you’ll get on average 1 skill point per site.
Is there something you can reference to confirm this?
By “finds”, I assume you mean when you start a new project. If that’s the case, I can confirm that I have not received a point when I started a new project.
Also, it clearly wasn’t this painful at first - I didn’t get to 910 out of 950 by doing anywhere near 110 digsites.
By find I mean when you find fragments and pick them up. You whack the ground and instead of putting down another surveyor tripod you get a pile of fragments to pickup. Early on when you pick up those fragments you get 1 skill pt every time but by the time you start approaching 950 it’s rng, sometimes you get a point, sometimes you don’t. The last 20 points it was close to an average of 1 skill pt per site.
Solves, dig site completions, and pristine artifact quests do not reward skill points.
I’ve maxed out archaeology on 2 characters, as tediously insane as that might seem, and that is how it worked in bfa.

Well all I can say is either its since broken or you were gifted with very favorable RNG. I think I’ve gotten 1 point over the last 4 sites.
I suppose, on the other hand, there’s little incentive to bother maxing it out anyway this expansion. But one would think Blizzard would not want a fluff game component to be so painfully tedious to do.

The least frustrating way to level Archy it seems is just to do enough of it to get to three crates each month. then use those crates each month to buy 15 fossil fragments, and do the one-off monthly turn-in quest at the Darkmoon Faire for five points skill up.
Slow, but not nearly as tedious as doing tons of pick-axe work for sod all skill ups.

The least frustrating way to level all professions in fact (lol) (sigh). But yes, once you get to ~930 and you start only getting a skillup every three or four digsites, this is the way to go. It is just a bit of a wrench for those of us still tragically plugging away at the Tol’vir mount or the Troll sword to waste crates.

I got the sword at level 45 or so. No Tolfdir mount.

You can buy fragments with the crated artifacts to complete whichever of the legacy levels you want.
