What's up with all the delusion

i’m seeing so many people here saying classic will be a challenge and that these old raids weren’t as mechanically easy as people say they are.

i mean you’re entitled to your opinion, but your opinion here is just wrong.

how can people possibly believe than any single raid pre-Wrath/Cata isn’t a complete joke for today’s players? is it because they haven’t done any competitive content in the past 6-8 years or what?

i’m genuinely curious how so many people can be so overwhelmingly wrong about something. it’s actually like kinda hilarious seeing these people go “wait till these entitled bfa players experience the difficulty of classic” lmaoo.

I’m not sure when the last time is that I heard someone say vanilla mechanics were objectively harder in a raid setting.

What we most like about Classic is that it takes longer to get a pair of white shoulders in vanilla than it does to get a complete set of epics in BfA.

And that’s starting at level 1 for both groups.

The arguments I’ve seen made most often, which are very strong arguments, is not that vanilla was necessarily more difficult than retail, but rather that the game was simply better by design.

Depends what you compare. Dancing around the boss timer wasn’t really a thing as there wasn’t many timers unlike today. Getting to the said boss was sometimes harder than killing the boss himself.

Then again. Except Naxx, no 40m raid actually required all 40 man to perform equally. We’ve routinely brought social guild members with us to raid and nobody cared about their DPS as it didn’t really matter as long as you had enough properly geared and knowing what they’re doing people. In MC half of the raid could be just filled with randoms. AQ40 was trickier but also not as demanding after the fix. Naxx actually required people to perform. AQ20 and ZG needed all to pull their weight in most encounters.

The paradox of vanilla is that sometimes 5man dungeons were harder to progress through than raids.

However, the thing that surprises me the most here is the entire discussion about if vanilla was harder or not. Does it really matter? Do you care? I like the game the way it was. I don’t care about it being harder or easier, it was different, that’s all.

I think the hardest part of Vanilla is just the leveling process. I think most people accustomed to retail will find classic leveling downright brutal. I remember when they did the last stat squish and it took more than one hit to kill a mob while leveling, the forums exploded with tears. Classic takes substantially longer to get to 60 than it does to reach max level on retail. I doubt most retail players will make it past lv30.

Yeah, but those were mostly the people leveling twinks in industrial scales for some reason. Suddenly the leveling process became “inefficient”. The most prominent complaint line was something like ‘the game stars at %max_level% why do you make me waste time leveling?’. As ridiculous as it sounds, it was Blizzard’s fault with thier focus on the endgame and raid-or-die game design.

Ever tried farming the mats, rep, enchants, consumables, and gear required to progress through BWL, AQ40 and naxx?

The amount of time it takes to progress through getting gear from all those places are a nightmare. This game will put you in a rolling paper, fold you up and smoke the ever living daylights out of you. some BiS gear rarely ever drops

I’m not a casual player but I got burnt out when I did a few runs in aq40 when it came out in northdale. So I’m taking a break until classic launches and then I’ll continue getting gear

Reported for reporting!

Anyone who comes on here talking about how vanilla wasn’t hard will give up before they even reach level 10, because it’s taking too long, and because they can’t get their 60% mount until level 40 (which they won’t be able to afford anyway). And that’s just the beginning.

In vanilla, you actually had to earn your rewards. Vanilla consumed people’s lives. People literally died playing vanilla. Vanilla was hard for reasons you won’t understand until you play it.

I played vanilla extensively back in the day, raided 12/15 Naxx, and recently experienced it again. We all know it has been dumbed down, but I was shocked just how much, it’s actually comical. Many of us have literally forgotten what it actually was like.

Well, I don’t personally think vanilla is ‘‘hard’’. Reaching max level is def harder in vanilla than it is now and it also feels more rewarding once you’re finally finished with it. As for raids, they’re not mechanically hard but I wouldn’t consider them face roll. Some guilds will blow right through them, mostly the high end private server guilds tbh…but as someone who has raided on Nostalrius and has watched plenty of other guilds do these raids on Twitch/Youtube streams, plenty of people still seem to struggle. Also, some people really don’t care if the raids are insanely hard, they just enjoy Classic as it is, gear feels more rewarding, social aspect, etc.

Never played Vanilla

kek.

Don’t make a hate thread again till you make it to 60… if you even make it to 60 that is.

There are ways to make content more challenging than encounter mechanics. 40 people. Slow gearing. Resist gear. Etc.

I think the easiest way to put it is that there are a lot of details in Classic, that were removed over the years. I.e., having to carry food to feed your pet (you have to hunt for the correct food or purchase it of the AH), taking your pet to the trainer to level him/her up, carrying arrows and bullets in case you get an upgraded weapon.

Not necessarily harder, but time-consuming.

See you in Classic.

Concerning the challenge of WoW Classic or Vanilla, I find it interesting to hear what classes people are planning to play. A lot of people are looking to play the op class, the op spec. And hunt the same gear, following guides made long ago and tested over and over again. They’re looking to play in guilds with similar people who will play other op classes, and op specs.

Is that challenge? Following a guide? Following a video? Following guild leaders and players who’ve done the content before?

No, so what does that mean? I believe it means players aren’t looking for challenge. So what are they looking for? Ritual and community experiences I suppose. They’re checking boxes off lists of events that will eventually happen with little to no real risk. And the community aspect means, umm, validation of the accomplishments? It’s early in the morning, my brain isn’t woke yet. This is the heart of WoW Vanilla, no real risk, but rewards, and social becomening. Okay that’s not a word. But I mean the player develops, and his group develops, and his world develops, and it’s all connected.

I learned in Diablo 2, in December of 2001, watching other players in my groups kill Diablo that most players are barely playing their characters properly or optimally. Yet they’re having a great time. And they love loot drops, that really, they’ll never see the best use of, or even imagine it’s best use. So, why do they play? Why are they so passionate? It’s something different, and WoW Vanilla, and hopefully WoW Classic does it better than any other game on the market.

TLDR: Challenge is sometimes seeing a long path to its end. And pvp too could be amazeballs.

Didn’t blizzard say that after releasing Sunwell That they would never release content of that level of difficulty to players?

No, Arguably there has been content harder then sunwell at this point it just isn’t gear gated as hard and comes with multiple difficulties.

Sunwell didn’t just have brutal fights it had very strict dps checks.

It’s funny when people say old content is too easy but whenever timewalking happens and you actually get scaled down to the proper level players have a really hard time beating it and often quit before its finished…
