In my opinion.
Worst: The gods are robots.
Best: Draenei
In my opinion.
Worst: The gods are robots.
Best: Draenei
Worst: the jailer was responsible for Arthas.
Best: Illidan was actually a good guy- wait no that was also trrrible.
Ummmm
Best: Tauren rogues!
Worst: Illidan survived being killed in WC3.
Best: Pandaren aren’t an April Fool’s joke anymore.
Still don’t like the split soul Sylvanas. Uther having a split soul is fine. Sylvanas though went through too much and has done unforgivable things (even more than the undead usually did). I know Sylvanas took responsibility for her actions and the cinematic was misunderstood as giving Sylvanas a get out of jail free card. Regardless I feel the split soul thing with Sylvanas is stupid and in a way still diminishes responsibility for her. Who knows if she would’ve done things differently if her soul wasn’t split. At least Uther’s mistakes with Arthas we’re understandable before and after his soul split. They butchered Sylvanas for this stupid plot with the jailer.
Forgive me, I know a lot of people have expressed these grievances before me.
Worst: I’d have to say the Jailer somehow planning for super specific things to happen and blizz just. Letting it happen.
Its absolutely absurd he needed so many specific things to happen for his plan
Best: Nothing comes to mind for “best”. Their other changes lorewise I’ve been neutral at best. Nothing negative, but also nothing super positive either.
Worst: Hard to decide between “The Jailer was actually playing 5D chess and was behind everything” and “ackshully the Titans were created by omnipotent 3D printers”. Though solid consideration to “a multiverse actually exists, but the Legion can’t use it because…THEY JUST CAN’T OKAY” and just Shadowlands Dreadlords in general (but that’s really a subset of Jailer playing 5D chess).
Best: Nothing really springs to mind. WoW’s never really had a massive lore retcon like say, Runeterra (League of Legends universe) had, WoW’s good retcons have mostly been kinda just smudging stuff so it works a bit better, especially for gameplay reasons.
Worst: Everyone pretending Gnome Paladins were never a thing.
Best: Re-introduction of Gnome Paladins mid 2023.
The retcon that took place to the meaning of retcon was probably the worst.
Worst to me is still Good Guy Illidan. Him being this selfish failure made him so oddly endearing to me.
Best retcon was Draenei. Went from frump to a rich and unique race.
Worst: The Titans actually are not evil Borg determined to come back and wipe us out because of the Curse of Flesh.
Best: There are no good retcons.
Illidan being seen as a hero feels a little off to me, though if you see him as one, nothing wrong with that. I know there is good to him but during your run through his dungeon/raid, didn’t he have a room full of people to keep him “satisfied”I mean really? Not sure if those people were their voluntarily or not but still.
worst: take a wild guess.
best: probably the draenei, they got some good storytelling out of the changes to eredar/draenei.
We were sent on a long questline to learn how misunderstood he was because OnLy He CaN sAvE uS. It’s not me reading him as a hero character, but the game explicitly telegraphing that to the player through Legion.
The Naaru, in BC: “You must kill Illidan.”
The Naaru, in Legion: “Wait, you actually went and did that? LOL”
Ah understood. That comment was just to people in general. I wasn’t trying to assume. I’m sorry
Best retcon? Illidan was the good guy all along. (ironically so is Sargeras)
Worst retcon? Blizzard @ fan questions regarding the giant sword in Silithus.
what sword?
The Jailer being a damn robot had me in tears.
I’m honestly pretending that SL didn’t exist.
Are you implying that without retcons, Med’an is real?
I ignore the trash Warcraft comics as default. They’re horrible.
(For anyone who hasn’t actually read the Warcraft comic books - DON’T)
Not all of them are horrible, simply because they weren’t trying to be that deep. That’s why Warcraft 3 is considered such a massive success, it didn’t try to be deep. It was just cool things happening.
Which is precisely what the Ashbringer comics were
