Whats the stigma with Quel'Thalas?

Mod Edit: Locking this thread down as it’s only causing toxicity.

I was a in a group once which a high ilevel priest applied to join. I was about to click invite when someone in my group said not to invite him. He explained his server was QT. I took his advice and didnt invite him. Can someone explain why this server in particular is bad?

It’s grouped in with the Ragnaros and the Azralon as far as players having bad experiences with people from those realms. It’s an unfortunate stigma that continues to prove itself right. I’ve tried inviting people from those realms and it always just seems like they’re intentionally bad/trolling, or the language barrier makes it very difficult to coordinate mechanics properly. I don’t want to say a good chunk of the playerbase from those realms are bad, but for years the bad players I run into tend to all originate from one of those three a very large percentage of the time.

It’s hard to break public perception when it continues to be proven true.

As someone from Quel’Thalas, I’d say Rhuor is right on the money, biggest reason being language barrier sometimes makes it impossible to communicate, we’re not all bad, but there are a lot of bad apples.

Language barrier can be a real problem when running content above heroic dungeons.

bad players and language barrier

The thing with those servers from my experience is that when they’re good. They’re REALLY good. and when they’re bad… they’re REALLY bad. No in-between.

Also I often use google transtale when I need to tell something to the non-english speaking tank. I don’t mind it, I enjoy being able to communicate using a language I don’t know other than the basic few words.

Used to be bad lag problems too. Is that still the case?

I think so, It’s safe to assume they’re playing with 400ms all the time.

Can’t speak for everyone but that’s not an issue for me, I’m usually around 80ms.

Yea, my latency jumps up when I join a group that has at least one member from one of these realms.

No idea why.

This is a big one especially for M+ and raids.

Agreed. Same could be said about many wow servers lol.

You know, I think I had this happen last night. I was running about ½ second lag on everything in a DoS run. Everything else in my house was fine and I never have lag problems. I powered through it (queued for the satchel) and as soon as I dropped group after, zero lag. I wonder if this is what was causing it.

this might help some Why is NA discrimination acceptable?

i talked about my experiences, though slightly off topic. The general consensus is due to the lack of communication people often don’t like to party with them. For others its can be a toxic environment such as what i dealt with.

The language barrier plays a role, but tbh it is just because the realms from outside the US (South America, Brazil and Oceania) are just a few, so they are easy to remember.

  • South America: Ragnaros, Quel’Thalas, Drakkari

  • Brazil: Azralon, Nemesis, TolBarad, Goldrinn, Gallywix.

But if you had a bad experience with a guy from the US english speaking realms… he could be from Stomrage, Area52, Mal’Ganis, Warsong, Zul’jin, Wildhammer, Sargeras, Proudmoore, Anvilmar, Balnazzar… the list goes on and on, there are like 100 realms or more.

There are FAR more bad players in the US realms, because they are so much more than the rest of the playerbase, but you cannot really say “Mal’Ganis players are bad”, or “Area52 players are toxic”, because chances are every single bad player you encounter is from a completely different realm. It is easier to label servers as bad players and/or toxic when most players from a certain region plays in the same few realms.

I’ve been in some great PUG groups with people from Quel’thalas and Azralan. I think it’s an unfortunate stigma. There are bad players on all realms.

This is just confirmation bias. If you group with someone from Area52 and they are bad do you think, “All players on Area52 are bad.” There are bad players on all realms but since these few realms have this stigma, for whatever reason, they stick out when you do encounter a bad player.

Okay, but take that “if you group from someone from insert server and they are bad” question and put it to 5 expansions worth (that’s nearly ten years since cross realm became a thing) of repeatedly experiencing the same thing.

Yes, there are bad players on all realms. But when you’ve spent ten years playing this game, and a vast majority of the bad players you run into originate from three realms, you can call it what you want but that’s a lot more than confirmation bias. And then you notice that that type of experience is shared for a large sum of people, and that’s why the stigma exists.

I can garantee you most US english toxic players are on illidan.

Not really, If I play with toxic US players they are usually good but impatient, mostly on Illidan and Frostmourn (Australians), not like SA players that are both bad and toxic.

There are definitely stigmas for the more popular US servers, just off the top of my head.

“Illidan, Area52, Stormrage, Bleeding Hollow and Tichondrius are full of toxic d-bags.”, (Mal’Ganis and Kel’Thuzad to a lesser extent)
“If you’re from Proudmoore you must be gay.”,
“Moonguard is full of furries and degenerates.”,
“Wyrmrest Accord is K-Mart Moonguard.”

On topic though, I’m not proud of it but I can admit to wondering how someone has managed to screw up so spectacularly, looking and seeing an SA or BR server and thinking “Ah, that’s why.” It’s a learned behavior at this point.
