What's the point

of world quest gear being substantially lower than the current gear you’re wearing? It’s basically just vendor trash. Again, what’s the point of doing those WQs if there’s no significant chance of getting an upgrade? It doesn’t make sense and is a pretty sh*tty mechanic imho.

World quest gear should be pretty much useless.

It’s the lowest form of content, it should have the lowest rewards.

Because it’s too easy?

Ok, so why not just remove gear rewards from WQs across the board? In BFA, you had a really good chance of upgrading your current gear by doing WQs. Now it’s just pointless.

Fine with me

Because it’s for the super casual. They can get weapons and rings and trinkets from WQs.

I kinda agree, what’s the point of it being there if it’s always useless, i’m speaking more about the covenant perks that up the item level of quest gear long after you actually need it. Sure, it’s nice to get epic shards instead of blue ones but it still feels pointless.

Yeah, that’s just another dumb mechanic. Increasing renown rank and seeing that WQ “upgrade” perk, but then checking the map and seeing it’s still 30 ilvls lower than what you’re currently using. Must have been a noob intern decision.

It’s mainly just side gear when just starting and catch ups for alts. WQs aren’t meant to be a main source of gearing like dungeons and raids, not at the high end level at least. That’s why there’s an ilvl cap on it.

I see you’re decked out in basically normal raid level. No WQ will ever give gear that high or it subverts the entire point of needing to run the difficult content.

I blame time gating for that. If you could catch up like you can now on alts world Quest gear wouldn’t be too bad if you’re super fast about upgrading renown

Some of my chars are getting item upgrades from WQs, because I’m not spamming LFG, and I’m not worrying about trying to bum rush M+ or raid.

But we’re you asking this same question in BfA, or even (I believe) in Legion? Because there comes a time when you outgrow the WQs.

No, I wasn’t asking this question because it wasn’t an issue in those xpacs.

One must ask then why even have WQ to begin with? If it is useless, so is the content!

Alt catch up gear, gear for offspecs, gear for DE,

You probably didn’t stop much to think about it.

World quest rewards are just there to supplement your gear. My druid was at 194, but I still had blue rings, and low and behold there was a 184 ring out there waiting for me. Just because it wasn’t useful for you doesn’t mean it’s useless to other people.

You can easily hit around 197 through pvp gear and cov armor which is enough to start heroic raids or get into mythics or start arenas and ranked pvp. The world quests ilevel goes up with your item level as well as the increased item level from renown, it seems to me. I could be wrong. If you’re over 197 gear… you’re probably not that interested in world quests anymore anyway.

I’m at 200 and am still interested in getting a solid answer to my question. So, is there some arbitrary ilvl where WQ gear becomes irrelevant?

I feel like it should change to rep items or something after you hit a certain item level.

Shadowlands in a nutshell.

This means that WQ gear you’re not going to use:

1.) Can make you gold.
2.) Can get you purple DE shards
3.) Can get you an item that works well for an off-spec you haven’t geared, yet.

Skip the gear reward WQs if you don’t want them. Simple as that. There’s plenty of point to it and it makes plenty of sense. Maybe for your character, they’re not worth it, and that’s fine. Skip 'em in favor of the WQs that drop anima or rep or something you actually want.

Right now, WQs are capped at the M0 gear level, and that’s marvelous for players who do not wish to do group content. Anything you do solo will be possible with 184 item level, and the trinkets and weapons being available alongside the body gear is great. It’s an excellent way to get alts ready for normal raiding (or solo endgame) without doing grouped content.

It’s intended for casuals, catch up or players wanting a close gap as possible before doing harder content.
