I report them but they still exist and still botting days after the fact, it’s a big problem
i report them and i get in game mail that my reports caused accounts to have actions taken against them they do it in waves.
Bots make Blizzard money, so they go just hard enough on them to convince the community they care
Yes it is, I won’t deny that. Problem is there is no way to permanently remove them. It’s a nuclear arms race between Game Industry and those that wanna cheat, never ending. Right now, best that you can do is report them and let Blizzard deal with it.
WELL SHUCKS
An error occurred: Body seems unclear, is it a complete sentence?
What’s your logic on that? Banning a bot is the only way for blizzard to gain cash off of them.
Blizzard does their bans in massive waves not a few at a time
They have to investigate what methods are being used, if the accounts are compromised, etc. Then yeah, they ban them in waves.
The people spreading the rumor that bots make Blizzard money are usually part of the problem (ie, the ones running bots). Their goal is to convince people that “reporting doesn’t help” to get fewer people to report.
Quite awhile back a blue actually gave a rundown on how bots cost Blizzard a lot of money, because the accounts are usually 1) stolen and 2) activated/paid for with stolen credit cards. Not only do they have to refund everything to the card that was stolen, the chargeback fees usually cost them even more. And that doesn’t even get into the manpower hours that go into restoring the compromised accounts.
I’ve seen a total of about a dozen bots in the past week and reported them all.
It takes time for Bliz to look into how the bot works and what it’s doing. Then they break the functionality and ban a whole wave of players at once.
takes time, they don’t like taking action until they can fix their ability to detect and prevent it first. Otherwise it’s playing wack-a-mole. They ban it and it comes right back with another account. Banning just doesn’t solve the issue.
Ban waves > going after each individually at individual times
They collect the reports and then do big sweeps. If you ban them one at a time, it’s easier for those who do the scripts for bots to figure out how they’re being detected and how to adapt and come up with a new/better/harder to report/ban script for botting.
Yep…botting investigations take weeks, minimum. You also have to take into account that people are sometimes right click reporting things that are not bots.
Aye, I’d hate to be the guy that has to go through everything and separate between: definitely yes, definitely no, requires more attention
I don’t know if there is a monthly report like this for retail…but in Classic it looks like they have been banning between 100K-200K accounts per month for cheating and exploitation. So I would say that’s the point.
They just don’t take action immediately.
And i’m going to assume Classic has the populace/capacity for them to do it every month compared to retail
The bots are also very obvious as well. They all have the same mount (base red proto-drake), they’re a druid/evoker/paladin, they are guildless, and they also don’t move naturally. I report them, but I do get exhausted when I report a bot while I’m herbing, come back the next day, and the same bot is still there herbing.
how often are these ban waves?
