What's the point of normal mode? [raid]

Heroic is highly puggable, maybe not the first month, and even then without normal mode raid finder could be buffed to where even the last half requires a few determination stacks if the group isn’t on point.
Normal mode just seems like a waste of a slot which causes tiers to be stretched in ilvl even further meaning stat levels get to ridiculous levels even sooner meaning we need a stat squish every 2 expansion. Uber casuals should be fine clearing raid finder and pugging the first half of heroic. Maybe then without normal there’d be more popularity in grinding out aotc pugs even this late in the patch, it seems like a lot of the pugs who would be fine grinding out a H sark kill now, lack the confidence and gravitate towards normals, the distinction between normal and heroic in terms of pug forgiveness is crazy.

For clarity I don’t think mythic should be nerfed relative to its traditional level of difficulty, but if raid finder were closer to normal (and started unlocking week 1)and heroic had more of a divide in first half second half difficulty I think every player who doesn’t raid mythic would be more motivated to make linear improvements over the course of the tier.

Could say the same thing about heroic dungeons.

(Seriously heroic dungeons shouldnt exist)

used to be called “flex” innit.

the point is to have a lot of difficulties so that there’s something for everyone. heroic is way undertuned this time which makes it seem like normal has no purpose.

that’s basically it. same with heroic and m0.

There are a lot of people at different skill levels. The guy who does 28s probably could ask the question about 15s. The answer is always, “it’s not for you, don’t worry about it.”

Every time I enter a heroic dungeon for any reason, I find myself asking “who’s this even for”, but I’m positive there’s an answer.

Yeah back in legion I was doing heroic dungeons and they were a decent challenge back then but now i can solo a heroic dungeon with no armor on.

Clearly its for new players/mega casuals I was too young to be anything else back in legion lol.

That’s what I’m saying. Someone is doing this content. Someone is running normal while flop sweating behind their pc.

Veterans forget how complicated this game actually is because we’re used to it.

i volunteered to heal a random group back in SL because they were looking for a healer in local chat and i was bored. the boomkin did – i am not exaggerating here – something like 850 dps overall in the dungeon. this was in a +2. we weren’t even close to timing and i couldn’t heal us through stuff just not dying ever at all. but we finished.

there are lots of groups out there like that.

Eh, normal mode had its use for a time for trinket + tier farming, but once the Catalyst came out, and with all the catch-up gear there’s really no point to do normal mode. It’d be more productive to do dawn of the infinite instead of normal mode.

Normal is a great place to rip though for missing tier and bis trinks. You can then upgrade those pieces to 437 ilvl.

Heroic dungeons are fine but the requirements to enter them are ridiculous, by the time you have the ilvl to queue for a heroic dungeon you can just do M+7

i asked at the beginning of expansion what’s the point of heroic 5mans… I was told to shut up because they’re good. They struggled to explain why or how they’re good.

You could probably go another step down.

Once you hit level cap, what’s the purpose of normal dungeons? And I don’t even mean from our current perspective (where there’s so much catch up gear), I mean even at the time everything was brand new. The only purpose of normal was to squeeze out a few extra ilvls because the game wouldn’t let you enter heroic (where you’d start properly preparing for M+ and raids).

That’s it. Their purpose was to compensate for a minor technicality (“you need 100 for heroics and you’ve only got 97, sorry kid”)

They could very easily get rid of normal by just scaling your gear in level 70 heroic queues like they do when you enter a timewalking dungeon.

we see with megadungeons, how even if they never have normal, the world doesn’t end.

I have been raidleading a community raid since beginning of dragonflight, and you cannot imagine it, but there are still people for whom normal raid is challenging. But i agree, that heroic raid is to easy at the moment. In season one I from time to time joined groups in LFG who where progressing heroic Razageth, joining there Discord and helping them out. That was fun. But currently there are no such groups anymore because no one even requires voice for heroic raids anymore.

This could be said in response to a lot of things in this forum. Veterans forgot how many moving parts there are and how complex it actually is. Many can’t seem to imagine anything being different than their own perspective.
