What's the point of Loot Trash?

Since you first start to level up your character and start looting. You end up with very little good loot. Instead you get Loot Trash. Rusty butter knives, torn rags, broken club, seaweed, old boot, mongoose eye, dirty feather, etc. All this grey-trash loot is problematic in clogging up Bag space. Specially if you have auto-loot on.

This junk loot is worthless to sell to merchants. Yes, there are 32 slot bags. Even then it’s still a waste of bag space. Is there some mechanic involved that is important? Or is this a
hold over from classic but in retail has no longer any relevance other than to aggravate the player?

Should Wow eliminate Loot Trash altogether from the game? Or are some players happy with the equivalent of scavenging through trash dumpsters.

  1. It doesn’t make sense for beasts or other non-intelligent creatures to carry around money. 2. It adds some flavor to the world.

If you’re having trouble with bag space, I would suggest buying one of the mounts that have vendors on them. The cheapest one is 20k gold but that can be reduced to 16k with faction discounts.

Also the next patch is going to come with a “sell all junk items” button so it’s really no big deal.

Some of that trash adds up in gold at times also. I don’t mind looting trash. Another persons trash is treasure(Gold).
I know in Dragon Flight looting the Tuskar tackle boxes trash adds up. Sometimes I get 400 gold for the trash. I tend to loot them just for that reason.

No it’s not. And it’s flavor for RP and the RPG element.

Absolutely not. I like my flavor items. I save some of them.

Level in BfA zones. WAY less trash loot there than any other expansion I’ve noticed.

Like others have already said it adds flavor to the world, and it is easy gold to acquire.

Some of that trash is often used in recipes/pattern and stuff and you can easily get a vendor mount nowadays, to sell in 2 clicks of buttons.

It adds flavour, plus when questing the gold from trash usually covers repair costs.

I agree with this…

So Im one for keeping it.

Yep. Doing my profession quests and stopping to loot tuskar tackleboxes and other treasures can get me an extra thousand or so in gold.

My dumb monkey brain gets all giddy running back to town to vendor things and see how much I raked in.

Get the Scrap add-on. Automatically vendors grey loot every time you open a merchant window.

You can also configure it to sell non-grey items you specify, as if they were also grey items. For example the various Dragonflight white items like the High-Fiber Leaf and Fluorescent Fluid (which are useless once you get the Lizi mount, but you keep looting them anyway).

-Level 1 toon to X level while looting+vendoring every junk item and gold

-Level another toon to same level while not looting said junk and gold

-Compare gold amounts

It’s really that simple, sure sometimes that gold is irrelevant for seasoned vets playing for a decade. But a brand new player can really use every bit they can scratch up (although not needing any of the riding training or NEEDING to buy more than 1 mount really eases this burden for fresh levelling)

Also most of the items add realism, and some of the trash even has flavor text to add to the lore of that zone or that specific creature. Gators and sharks have all been found with way stranger things in their stomachs than gold coins even in real life haha

Honestly, this is probably a big part of why it exists.

I’ve made millions of gold selling vendor trash over the years. It might not seem like a lot in the moment but can add up. Get a mount with a vendor and sell in the fields so your bags aren’t overloaded.

Me too! Some of the things I find go really well with the with backstory/personality of my characters.

Feels like hitting the lottery when your vendoring stuff and realize some gray piece of crap sold for 40 gold LOL

It doesn’t make much sense a rare bird mob would have a unicycle on them either

Yep!

I also have this. Because who doesn’t think this is funny?
