Am I missing something? These still require a Spark of Shadowflame (which are time gated to only 1 every 2 weeks). Who would ever waste a spark on crafting an honor piece rather than conquest?

Because outside of the first 2 that you get for free, conquest pieces cost conquest. After those are crafted, you can craft honor level gear to fill in slots with your best stats, and then upgrade to 450 once conquest is uncapped, or you otherwise have no other upgrade to spend it on.
But who is gonna spend Shadowflame on anything other than 450 gear?
Iirc, Those honor crests only work on gear made with Shadowflame.
Again, you have to spend conquest to get the 450 upgrade items, which is conquest not spent on other items. After using your first 2 free conquest trophys, you can use sparks of shadowflame to get better statted honor gear, and then recraft it later down the line once you are able to spend conquest on another 450 upgrade trophy.
It probably won’t see any use early, since you’re basically just swapping a 437 for a 437 with better stats.

The first two were free but the rest cost their equivalent in conquest from the vendor.

I just bought a bunch of crests of honor to use my Honor points thinking “oh boy I’ll go craft a bunch of PVP gear.” Well… I didn’t pay attention to the word “EPIC.” so when I went to go craft my Obsidian Combatant gear – after spending a few thousand gold to buy those recipes – and it didn’t work, I found out the hard way.
So after a bit more research I found out – hahahahaha - jokes on me. I’ll never craft those pieces. I don’t do anything to farm Sparks. I didn’t in Season 1 and I won’t do it in Season 2 either. It’s pointless to try. All you do is get murdered by other players who overpower you because you don’t have gear. So why!!!
Between the failures of the crafting revamp and the failures of the pvp gearing system Blizz has botched this so badly. And the Crests are just pointless. The gating on Solo Shuffle is also a failure. Now I need a PVP gear rating of 434 which I cannot achieve because I can’t get the gear.
Blizzard has really damaged the experience for players – and especially solo players who don’t have guilds or loads of friends on the same time zone and same game time hours to help them. And this is why I keep saying I’m quitting.
Nothing Blizzard has done during Dragonflight has made this experience better. And when we give them direct feedback they say just post in the forum. And then they ignore your feedback anyway.

I’m really confused about the crest of honor. They are useless for requiring a Spark. I can’t see them used as placeholder for conquest either, unless later in the season.
