Whats the point of classic cata?

Isn’t the point of classic to be able play before blizzard butchered the game with cata and mop?

‘Classic Cataclysm’ is an oxymoron … just wait for the inevitable ‘Classic Pandaria’!

That was the intention, to have a Vanilla server in perpetuity, warts and all, that people could come back and play with friends! Seeing as Blizzard shut down the likes of Nostalrius! And hence a rather large petition was signed!

“The point” from whose perspective? Does there have to be a point? Is it limited to one?

From a company’s perspective, there may be several “points” to providing a product or service, which may range from providing value to customers to building relationships leading into other things, etc.

From my point of view, I’m playing Cata because I’m playing it. Most likely because I played other Classic versions of the game, and this is currently the only one that offers arenas.

In 2018 - early 2019, yes.

After that we said the point of Classic is TBC with cash shop boosts and mounts.

It’s a War Within waiting room.

the point is there’s an audience of people who like to play with different iterations of WoW’s past that they like.

Only problem is that Blizz never bothered to at least keep one dedicated server per expansion, but I imagine that would be a hassle to upkeep. I would like it that way but we cant deny that there’s group of people that do want to play the older expansions and not just Vanilla WoW. They all have their valid reasons.

Its a far superior game where skill>time. Its also why andrews hate it so much. Great pvp as well

Maybe because I’m a Wrath baby—started playing just after Ruby Sanctum launch and hit 80 for the first literally the day before the Cata prepatch—I see Cataclysm as part of the heyday of WoW. It totally belongs in the Classic discussion imo.

But Mists…no. Mists was too far gone from the original spirit of the game to be a part of Classic. I know some would say that about Cataclysm but the original talent system was still intact, classes still felt mostly the same, the gameplay loop and leveling were mostly still there.

If/when Mists happens, I’ll probably just become a Classic Era full-timer, considering that isn’t entirely gone by then as well.

I’d take a TBC or Wrath era server any day. I did play the cata og and liked it ok, it’s not the same though.

Classic ended when Wotlk did. Era ended when they decided to start making changes to it again.

The problem is that you don’t have to be good (and by good I mean gamer good with lightning reflexes and quick-twitch responses) to enjoy and progress in an RPG. Gamer ‘skill’ shouldn’t be a factor in an RPG.

Classic ended when TBC began.
