What's the Point Of Bursting Shot?

It seems to be the most unreliable ability in PvP.

Feels like the radius should be a couple yards longer. Even in PvE I had cases where I wanted to push a mob and it didn’t unless I was almost standing on top of them.

The increased knockback distance compared to what we used to have is nice though.

It gets you distance against melee and acts as an interrupt against casters. You can use it to force the Binding Shot root. You can use it to knock people off the edge in AB or EotS. You can use it as an AoE interrupt in dungeons, even against uninterruptible spells.

It’s very versatile. I agree the cone is super short and very narrow though.

The radius of the slow is fine. If you hit someone with it from like 5 yards away they get slowed. The main problem with it is the the knockback cone. While it does seem to be more reliable in SL than it was in BFA (but this may just me being more used to using it).

It’s still a narrow cone that has to be used at basically point blank range to have it’s knockback effect. The slow itself is borderline useless as any melee is just going to use one of their CDs and remove the slow, or have applied a slow of their own. The knock back could stand to be farther, as unless you’re knocking them down hill or off a cliff, you’re not getting yourself any significant distance.

I understand what it does.

What I’m saying is that it is very unreliable. You can fire it four times and maybe it works one of those four times.

They should either fix it or replace it with something that is reliable.

Like I said. It has a narrow cone that has to basically be used at point blank range for it’s knock to actually occur.

I’m saying I do use it point blank in PvP and it still doesn’t work more than half the time.

Maybe that’s because there are too many immunities or maybe it’s broken but right now it just feels bad pushing a button that is designed to keep me alive but never seems to work.

If it’s not working there are a few things.

  1. You may not be close enough. When I say point blank, I mean it. If you aren’t basically kissing them, you aren’t close enough.
  2. You aren’t facing them directly enough. The cone is very narrow. Just slightly off to the left or right can cause it to miss.
  3. They are stunned. Stuns cancel and prevent knock backs. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve knocked someone back only for them to be stunned and only fly two feet.
  4. They have some kind of immunity at that time.

Also, some roots like binding shot prevent them from being knocked back. If haven’t triggered the root they will be knocked back slightly until it triggers. If they have already triggered the root they won’t budge.

Iirc it is also on a DR. Its hard to tell if your target was immune to Dr or if you missed.

You are right. It wiffs for me constantly too in battlegrounds. Works great 1 out of 4 times. Same with explosive trap.

I’d rather have a reliable single-target knockback, akin to powershot functionality, but without the damage.

This.

If I want an AoE / CoE knockback I would just use Explosive Trap.

Please make that ability single target.

I feel like the range of it is OK, but the narrowness of it is kinda nuts. Like they have to be directly in front of you or it just does nothing. It’s especially awkward when you’re side strafing.

If they’d simply widen the arc it can hit IMO it’d be fine.

This is a function of both the narrow arc for the effect, and latency. Players in any online game are not quite exactly where you think they are.

If you analyze positions for party members from two different player perspectives of the same party, you will find that often a player is just to the right or left depending on which player screen you are watching.

This can make it look like someone is directly in front of you when the server thinks they are just to the side. This happens in every video game and is the nature of trying to match different inputs from all over the country/world.

i think the strange part is the animation looks super wide, but the edges of it have no hit box or something.

Instead of a cone the hit box should be a forward facing rectangle. The dead zones to the sides of the skill make it so unreliable for a land or die type skill.

Have you used it since SL? It used to be buggy but now it works 100% of the time. I’ve been loving it in arenas in combination with explosive trap. As noted above you need to be in melee range and facing them directly.

Knock-backs have a dr like stuns.

It’s just suppose to be a point blank knock back. Exlosive trap if you want to do it from range.
