What's the point in time-gating LFR?

Like… this is the worst thing you could possibly do.

All it does is create an even bigger gear disparity between people who raid seriously and casuals. People who already have a guild with friends and actually get to raid, good that’s awesome. But the others who don’t and just want to do LFR and call it a day get to suffer horrible time-gating for already much inferior gear to begin with.

If LFR was released at the same time then what, would it threaten the heroic/mythic raiders at all? It wouldn’t, and the gear it gives is trivial anyway. So why?

An even worse side to this is that it ruins the entire experience. I mean the whole point of LFR in the first place is an easy-mode cinematic experience that allows people who don’t raid to still experience content. Except now you have to wait 8 or so weeks for the story to slowly trickle in while everyone knows it already and will probably spoil it.

It’s very aggravating and basically makes people who only want to go as far as LFR feel like they have to quit for 8 weeks and then come back so they can do it on their own time.

Agreed

Get ready to get blasted by wanna be tryhards who would feel obligated to run LFR for their 2/10 mythic guilds.

That will definitely make the difference

Honestly, time gating LFR just means I’m that much less likely to care about the raid at all. Blizz has a habit of cutting off their nose to spite their face. I mean, Blizz literally admitted that people don’t progress from LFR to normal. People who do LFR do it because they don’t have the time to waste in organised group content with set schedules.

Yeah I agree. Idk Blizz insists on insulting that part of the playerbase that runs LFR exclusively

Don’t try to look for logic in it, it’s a waste of time. Elitists want you to do modes you hate to see the raid on time so they won’t feel inclined to do modes they hate to get tier early.

How about this, elitists? If you’re so good, play the game without literally every single advantage for once in your life!

There is many reasons why. For example this tier, tier sets are returning, so having a set bonus is very impactful regardless of the item level.

LFR comes out a week after normal to try and coax people into signing up for groups and getting that taste of organized large instance content. For 18 years they have designed the game around privately organized large instance content, so all the decision making leans toward that regard.

People who already planned on doing normal would still just do normal. Players who were planning on doing LFR wouldn’t do normal regardless.

LFR comes out a week after normal

no, it comes out WING 1 (aka 3 bosses) a week after normal

then every TWO weeks after they add another wing. Meaning 8 weeks+ to actually be able to do the full raid in LFR

That’s the issue.

Well that part is just plain necessary so early raiders don’t have people spoiling the fights in the first hour. LFR staging also simulates progression, you start out downing 3, then 6, etc. Blizz gonna do it how they want either way, and there is reasons.

When has this not been the case? What is new here? The only time I remember LFR not being delayed was when it first came out, and that was a huge issue because of raiders feeling forced to run it because of tier gear. Better solution? Get rid of the delay and get rid of gear in LFR. It’s worse than world quest gear anyway, now people get to look at their story. Problem solved, right? Right?

Like the vast majority of raiders don’t watch fight guides before they enter the raid lmao

What a joke

The best way to simulate progression is to just let players progress at whatever pace they want

While true, it doesn’t make it obnoxious and stupid design

So the entire gets game gets changed because people doing unnecessary work that they chose to do in the first place. Excellent design.

Again, just a bunch of wannabe tryhards pretending that LFR tier gear will be the difference in a fight that they’re stuck on

That is what the players think, not what Blizzard think. Blizzard doesn’t change things like this at all. These are just the reasons they have stated in blue posts why it is the way it is. Asking them to change things only gets malicious compliance. Oh people don’t like the systems in 9.0 and 9.1? What if instead of a stated rep barrier for enhancing 9.2 overland gear, we just hid the rep barrier and didn’t reference it anywhere in game? Patch 9.2 is like a middle finger to the GD complainers lol

The world first Deathwing kills were done by people using LFR tier pieces because a LFR tier piece giving the set bonus was more powerful than heroic tier pieces of the previous tier. So I wouldn’t go as far as to say it wasn’t necessary. People were literally exploiting LFR just to get that tier set bonus as fast as possible.

Things I don’t understand and am not good at make me mad too, you’re not alone

The only reason seems to be so people can feel better about themselves by doing it earlier.

Like it literally seems like they are catering to the people who want to only feel better than their peers Even though those people are a small minority.

Nobody should care if world first guilds use it to get something because they are so far above the curve that they should not factor into anything. Why the hell blizzard keeps thinking how it affects them as meaningful is sort of mind-blowing

My guess is Blizz wants to make it seem important to kill the jailor

And if that’s something they want to do, more power to them. If they don’t want to run LFR, they absolutely do not have to do it.

In short, the minority of players who might feel obligated to turbo farm like that can deal with it because they are choosing to do extra.

When you’re playing competitively, getting an edge isn’t a choice. It’s something you HAVE to do if you want to remain competitive. Wow caters to all types of players. Not just the casual crowd or the competitive scene exclusively.
