What's the most fun part of WoW?

i’ve been doin a lot of thinking about WoW, considering what the fun part of the game is, and how flat the ‘fun’ in WoW is.

like, when your out and about questing, the most fun part is when you get one of those ‘change of pace’ quests. where you hop in a turret, or get in an overpowered vehicle and massacre massive amounts of mobs.

…but then it’s over, and you go back to your 800th ‘kill x amount of mobs and return to me’ quest.

it’s fun, in short bursts, but to me, the ‘fun’ in WoW is pretty flat, probably from the large amount of repetitive grind-quests in the game.
to use drinks as an example, games like sonic adventure and halo 2 (yes i’m old, but those games came-out around the same year as WoW originally did), are like soda. they’re sugary, and fizzy and make you excited right off the bat, while WoW is more like a cup of tea. it’s not quite as sugary, and there’s no fizz, but it’s still delicious.

what’s the point i’m getting at? …i dunno. i’m just spouting how i’ve felt about the game for a long-time now. have a good one folks.

…i did’nt get into what i find fun about dungeons, because they tend to just become bland-feeling after like, the 5th time you run’em.

Questing isn’t fun for me.

For me, it’s how broad the game is. Whether or not it interests you, there is plenty to do in any given week of WoW. High end PvE/PvP. Casual PvE/PvP. Collecting transmog/mounts/pets. Pet battles. Crafting. Playing the economy. Achievement hunting. Alt swapping.

I came back in November just after Blizzcon when I caught the bug again. Before that I was playing Destiny 2 and quite literally ran out of reasons to log in each week. I had no goals that didn’t feel like either a pointless slog or exceedingly difficult. Since then, I’ve had plenty to accomplish gearing up for TWW on four characters and have the rest of the summer planned out before launch. For me, the fun is having and accomplishing satisfying in-game goals.

I love WOW, but one day, last week, I got so bored that I decided to try the FFXIV free trial. And you know, I am having a lot of fun. But I don’t really need to advertise what makes it fun because it’s something you can easily try out and decide whether or not it’s for you.

WOW is fun in its own way, I like the idea of keys and raiding, it’s better than FFXIV in that aspect. WOW needs to be more open to the idea of adding other stuff to keep players engaged, it doesn’t always need to be PVP or mythic+ or more affixes. But it can go beyond that. Doing the same thing every expansion isn’t all that fun, I enjoy doing mythic+ but there just comes a certain point where you realize pushing isn’t worth it.

The day I finally break free from it. Of course.

PvP, imo.

Battleground Blitz was a lot of fun, I’ll be making that my main activity once it becomes a rated mode in The War Within.

Heavensward is still my favorite story in any game, MMORPG or otherwise, it was just that good for me personally.

A lot for me;

  • When I’m off WoW and on my long 48-60 hour work cycles I can still check the forums. Give me a purpose. The days are too long (14 hours from when I wake to when I’m back home so I don’t really get much time.

  • The fact I can choose on a week to only do 4 heroic dungeons and one LFR and get a socket for my gear or enough Wyrm crests for a heroic item.

  • Choosing between what content to do each week. Ever since they allowed people to choose, always seen some attendance at most ingame times events.

  • That even starting this game in its 17th year I can still go back and do say 7.1, 7.2 and progress through the patch content of each expansion. I’ll admit I’ve only touched SL, BfA and Legion but what a journey it’s been. I have fought the Zandalari empire, i’ved rescued Raden from deep below the throne of thunder.

Craziest part is I know I’ve only touched the surface of WoW even after Loremaster.

Used to be PvP. They kinda ruined that now. So just HC now mainly. And some SoD off to the side.

The only fun part of WoW is the people you play with. And it’s only as fun as the people you play with.

The fluidity of combat an the end game loop are the fun part of wow for me, at least for 4-6 months every year im here.

My favorite parts are playing with folks, primarily M+ though I have fond memories raising years ago.

I do find just cruising around solo to be fun, but I’m also found of humans so I like the random matchmaking dungeons and try to chat with folks in there :upside_down_face:

To me, the most fun part of WoW is hanging out in discord with my friends and helping with whatever they want to do. Mostly that’s M+, but we also raid. And sometimes we help each other with quests or crafting or farming some old mount… Matters less what we’re doing than that we’re having fun doing it together.

The raiding for me, just about 2 dozen people coming together for a big challenge and spending actual time planning and executing it is really nice, and the loot of course. I also just started running m+ for the first time this week and I’ve been having a blast tbh

RPing with friends.

Partaking in PVP, too.

I love my community, either it be RP, just talking openly in the city, goofing around out in the world. It’s a lot of fun.

Had a moment last night where my underleveled warrior dueled an evoker. Somehow pulled an Orgrimmar Thief, so the moment I got blasted to 1HP the Thief came out of stealth and killed me. Never died from a duel before, was a real riot.

That’s such an unfortunate turn of events! I love that, tho.

I started playing Classic. It was fun seeing the game more like it was when I started back in Cataclysm. Of course I was playing Lich King, the version prior to Cataclysm which was a bit more primitive.

Then I noticed that you can switch all the way back to Classic so I’ve started a toon there and it is even far more primitive. Back in LichKing days you didn’t have the yellow arrow on the mini map telling you which direction to go. You had to look at the big map. Back in Classic even the big map had limited informaiton.

Now I’ve see that you can get World of Warcraft I, II and III. I hadn’t really noticed before. Got to give those a try.

To be fair, I enjoy questing. When I get to the 5+ character that I am leveling, then it gets tedious. Some characters it is harder to do things on than others. Like my Rogue. Sometimes he struggles with a quest, and other times he breezes through them.
Warlocks and Paladins? I can usually solo more elite mobs and 5 man quests. I am dreading leveling my mage. Seems to be a really squishy class.
