Doesn’t every single demon hunter in lore have the tattoos as either the fel green or black? I don’t know why there are the teal, red, and purple tattoo color options for them unless its just for gameplay reasons.
In legion its explained during an inscription quest that the tattoos are made from Arcane ink because Arcane and Fel are opposing cosmic forces.
The ink helps keep the demon inside contained.
As for color its probably just personal preference for the Demon Hunter.
Edit: after a little research it appears each ritual to turn into a DH is different and there are no two sets of tattoo/runes that are the same.
So the tattoos may have to be diffetent colors based on the individual and/or the demon involved

I have never heard any source denoting any significance as to the color.
However, some in-game NPCs do have other colors. Sana Bloodletter and Illysanna Ravencrest, for example, have purple. I assume they just use a different base for the ink or add a dye.

… i was an scribe for all of legion and i completely missed this part god damn it… sounds pretty cool though, i feel like we should be able to make more colors for our tattoos being a demon hunter only thing though haha it makes sense story wise and would make a cool profession flavor for us :X
There aint’ any.
They’re just there as cosmetic options. Just like the fact that not all demon hunters have horns.
