With Shadowlands being announced I’ve heard the lore changed for the Helm of Domination, I just wanna know what is retconned. For example, did the Helmet still receive its powers from Kil’jaeden. I know it wasn’t crafted by the Nathrazim anymore but taken from the Shadowlands. I just wanna know because on a previous post of mine I wanted to know if Sylvanas could beat Arthas The Lich King. I just feel this is kinda important to know so…

We thought the Dreadlords made it, but apparently they just stole it from the Shadowlands.
Is it still canon that Kil’jaeden gave it it’s powers or do we not know?
The WCIII Manual doesn’t actually say where the Helm of Domination came from but that Ner’zhul was shoved into a block of ice crafted carefully in the furthest reaches in the Twisting Nether.
The Manual also says Ner’zhul was warped by Kil’jaeden’s powers which made Ner’zhul a spectral being of unfathomable power. One would think Ner’zhul would need Fel empowerment in order to tap into the great power of the Helm of Domination.
Wouldn’t surprise me if when the Dreadlords stole the Helm from Torghast they decided to use the forge it and the rest of the Lich King’s Armor was made on to create Frostmourne in order to funnel more power into the Helm of Domination.
Like Vespero said - you have said everything we know at the moment. The information Blizzard has given us for Shadowlands (which won’t come out for a year) is very threadbare, so any answers to these questions won’t be found on a forum where the people know as much as you.
What we learned hasn’t changed anyrthing. Kil’jaeden may have both imbued it and stole it from the Shadowlands. He’s still the creator of the original Lich King Ner’zhul.

Kil’jaeden wasn’t said to have imbued the Helm with powers but Ner’zhul’s Soul itself!
The fact that the Helm controls the Undead has nothing to do with Ner’zhul’s own Demonic powers.
There has been no Lore on the Helm of Domination itself before the Shadowlands’ announcement. Only the Lich King(created by Kil’jaeden) and Frostmourne(created and empowered by Dreadlords) got Lore not the Helm and Armor.
The Helm was to my understanding never stated to be created by Kil’jaeden nor the Dreadlords…

New Lore:
- KJ twisted Nerzhul’s soul
- Nathrezim stole Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination from Toghast’s Forge in the Maw
- Apocalypse was probably still forged by Nathrezim?
Actually the old lore aside from the RPG was:
- Kil’jaeden twisted Ner’zhul’s Soul and shoved him inside a specially crafted ice block that he obtained from the furthest reaches of the Nether(which was the same place as the Shadowlands when WC3 came out).
- Nathrezim/Lich King forged and empowered Frostmourne.
New Lore:
- Kil’jaeden twisted Ner’zhul’s Soul and shoved him inside a specially crafted ice block that he obtained from the furthest reaches of the Shadowlands.
- Nathrezim stole Helm of Domination(which had no backstory before outside the Non-Canon RPG) from Torghast.
- Frostmourne was forged on Torghast’s forge.
