Look I’m bad at the game mk? I like rogues tho.
Sub is pretty straightforward. All of the rogues have to maintain some things, which is slightly annoying, but sub is probably least annoying in that regard.
Aoe rotation in shadowlands looks to be very smooth. Single target is quite straightforward as well.
I’m going sub, mainly because I always look for a spec within a class that feels smooth to play.
I would personally prefer slice and dice to not be a thing, but other than that, sub is nice.
For single target, assassination will be the simplest. For anything involving more than one target, it’ll roughly be a tie between subtlety and outlaw.
My recommendation is outlaw because the rotation hardly changes at all between single and multitarget.
As far as ease of play rogues are one of the harder classes to play once you break down their rotations and fight mechanics.
You have to track things on all three specs.
If you want a simple low APM I suggest Arms Warrior
If you want a fast APM I suggest fury.
BM hunter is also very simple.
PvE? PvP? If PvP just go sub, even if you don’t know what you’re doing you’ll still clock people with shadowstrike.
In PvE? Probably Assassination, but outlaw would be easier since you don’t really change your rotation for multi target.
To be an effective rogue you need to make use of all of our (pruned) tools, so just take some time and practice, you’ll get there.
All 3 specs are about the same difficulty in all honesty once you play them, there’s only minor differences in their skill ceilings.
Subtlety has slightly more skill required, most of your damage is from Shadow Dance so you need to make good use of it, mistiming it with boss timers or phases can hurt you pretty hard.
Outlaw is very straight forward, you don’t have to know when to reroll Roll the Bones anymore so it’s just a fast paced generator/finisher spamming spec that I’m really enjoying at the moment. An added bonus is that it is an AoE monster for Dungeons/Mythic+
Assassination is the easiest of the three due to it’s slow APM, you don’t have high energy regeneration like the other two so your gameplay loop is just pooling energy then dumping it into Envenom. It’s Actions Per Minute is around half the other two specs.
