Or is it called a Spellblade? Eh, either way what’s the difference?
Would be cool. And yes, the WoW equivalent would be a spellblade, as there are npc battle mages who are simply mages.
The last time I can recall spellblades in action is in MoP Isle of Thunder. I mained my OG Paladin back then, thematically they’re very similar, Paladins/Bloodknights are just Spellblades who specialize in Holy melee.
Ones a Mage who learned how to stab things and the others a Warrior who learned how to burn things with their mind.
Hope that helps.
Kind of, Like one is predominately a spellcaster who occasionally hits things while the other is a melee specialist who occasions sets things on fire with their mind.
Nah it’s pretty much just different starting areas.
Battle-Mages start as Mages first and then branch out into learning melee combat. Spellblades/Spellbreakers start as Warriors and then learn Magic to either disrupt Mages or augment their ability to stab people.
So, different origins. Same destination then? hm reminds me of a thing from Negima.
Say by imbuing weapons with magic, akin to shaman flametongue, but can go beyond the elements depending on setting?
Truthfully, I think of battlemages being akin to Final Fantasy Red Mages, where as Mage Knights are an amalgamation of paladin, shaman, mage, etc or FFVs sorcerer
From the D&D point of view, thd battlemage can stab things and casts spells in battle better than a regular mage but still has the tissue armor.
Spell blade gets the armor and picks up a few spells as part of his repertoire.
Not sure either would fit into WoW, since abilities are often spells and weapons are often ability enhancers more than anything else.
For Battle Mage, might want to extend it a bit to better armor (mail tops) and then we might be able make the ele/enh Shaman “hero” talents make them like a red mage. Perhaps redoing Evoker for one without the draconic connection.
For Magic Knight, it will be harder as weapon imbues that some might think for such are spread across many classes.
Don’t know why but I’m reading this and I was thinking about this korean MMO. Had a Magic Knight class for one of it’s characters. specialized in Fire magic and Runes, summon forth illusionary swords as well.
An Arcane using Enhancement Shaman is probably the best description of Spellblades, yeah.
Still different destinations. Like I said above, a Spellblade can best be thought of an Arcane (or fel) using Enhancement Shaman. Battle Mages are still very much Mages first and foremost.
One is a spell caster with some weapon training and the other is a knight trained to use magic.
For example in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition: Bladesinger Wizard versus Eldritch Knight Fighter
