Before it came out I had so much hype. We get to see outland before it was outland. All the old orcish leaders. It started off so great with the quests and Blackrock foundry. Then things started to fall apart. We only got 3 raids, with Shattrath raid being scrapped. We diddn’t get Farhalon or the zangarmarsh zones. (that fungal whale concept art looked amazing btw) It just got abandoned while the main team went to work on legion. What the heck happened? So many good ideas that never came to fruition.
am i having a stroke
They scrapped a lot of the content for a selfie patch.
They really didn’t.
They scrapped a lot of content because they wanted to make an expansion every year, and that failed horribly.
Yeah, WoD was their first trial run at a year-long expac.
It was a pipeline disaster
(it didn’t help that one zone had to basically be redone)
Ion… that’s what’s wrong with it.
What zone?
The last one to be added ?
Gorgrond.
It was supposed to be a lot more Orcs but they feared Orc fatigue so made it about thigns that aren’t orcs.
But that sort of…screwed with the narriative line leading in to Shattrath
Oh yea I heart there was supposed to be a railroad through the zone.
It’s what the people wanted.
Is this still 2014?
I know, I’m just being a smart booty.
It was a disaster as they were being pushed for time by the community and dropped SO MUCH content. I think if they had just gone back and said it wasn’t ready yet, made a blasted lands raid in MoP as an extra raid to give themselves another 10 months it could have worked.
It was pretty much doomed before it released. Partway through development they suddenly radically changed a lot of the content, altered the story, and cut out much of their original plan. Then there was no time to make up the difference.
Original WoD’s concept was fantastic, it’s a shame it didn’t play out as expected.
I wonder if It comes the time of wod classic If people would enjoy It if blizzard released the original plans for the expansion
The Garrison being a core feature & Trashran.
Garrison killed the capital cities, which killed the feeling of a populated world. The Garrison also gave free gear, which made people feel little need to grind for it. The Garrison was also bland and generic, offering little customization for either side, so it felt like a slog for many people to work on. Plus a lot of it was timegates, so people got bored of having no reason to login outside of their Garrison timegates and missions for the week.
Trashran was more PVE than PVP so it turned away PVP’ers. Plus it was really slow, long and drawn out. Holinka wanted to bring back the good old Alterac Valley days. Aka, days of collecting resources, skirmishes out in the field, taking forever to actually complete the objective. Turned out a lot of PVP’ers just wanna scrap and get some easy honor and conquest. Ashran was the opposite of that.
Smart alecry doesn’t work when someone’s genuinely asking for information that they do not have.
You just confuse them.
They basically stopped working on it as soon as it launched and mostly switched over to Legion. The only content it got post launch was 1 zone (that was originally supposed to be there at launch, it was cut to hold it back so that the one patch wouldn’t only have a raid and nothing else).
It was 1/3 of an expansion for $10 more. At least Shadowlands reduced the base cost of the expansion down to $40 if you don’t care about level boosts and other junk.
But yeah, a 1 patch expansion (with that patch having pretty much zero content outside of the raid and a couple rep grinds)…it was pathetic to the point where to this day I consider it a scam.
Chilton was over WoD launch and progress. Ion took over mid xpac and was the raid designer before then.
It was the dream xpac of people like preach. Casuals screwed, all raids all the time, no busy work, before 6.2 one whole daily, and reps didnt matter.
