Whats the deal with this "unpruning"?

Why is arcane shot and steady shot baseline for all specs yet only marksmanship uses it? If they wanted it to be used by survival then let killshot be usable with a ranged weapon. Stop with this melee garbage design. BM used arcanr shot in mop when cobra shot WAS steady shot.

Nobody knows. They just randomly gave MM abilities to all specs ignoring the fact that those abilities don’t work with BM and Surv.

Arcane Shot was better than Cobra Shot for a while during the Beta, but then they buffed Cobra Shot, making Arcane Shot totally useless. So why even put it there in the first place if it wasn’t intended to be useful?

BM doesn’t actually get Steady Shot. I think there’s something dumb like Barbed Shot replacing it which makes no sense either since those two abilities are so different. A spammable focus generator would have at least a bit of use for BM, but apparently they didn’t want that.

Tranq Shot is also pretty dull since we already had pets that could do that. So in Shadowlands they removed the pet abilities that dispelled. So basically they added a GCD to our dispel -_-

Hunter’s Mark sucks and now it’s back.

Killshot is probably the only unpruned ability that isn’t total garbage.

Lets talk about SV getting steady shot and to add insult to that even if you equipped a bow, steady shot doesn’t generate focus for SV.

Because they only really unpruned as a pr stunt for the expansion. Rogues are really the only ones who benefited from this, making them more op as now all specs have poisons. Rets just got their passives turned into GCD auras. Hunter actually got a good thing in kill shot usable with all specs. Shamans got bamboozled and only got healing stream totem.

If they allowed SV hunter to use arcane shot and steady shot with their minixbow (so you have an option when Aspect of the Eagle is on CD) then there would be something with the uprunning but as Bakkian says it feels more like a “PR stunt” than meaningful change. If in the next great unprunning SV loses steady shot and arcane shot, I doubt anyone will notice. Though it is nice to have tranq shot basesline again.

Whaaaaat? I kind of not want to know these things prior to patch. The more I hear the dumber Shadowlands sounds.

I’m glad this will be the last one for me, I really hope there is a new company with a replacement MMO. Wow is killing itself.

The whole thing is just a cover that that lets them claim they returned “class identity” to Hunters even though they are still trudging down the road of “spec identity.”

It’s the same reason they aren’t listening to us about HM. The ironic thing about HM is that it doesn’t match any of the previous iterations to the ability prior to it becoming a talent in Legion. They basically unpruned it to something it had never been before the prune.

It could be worse. They could have baselined Raptor Strike or Mongoose Bite.

Hey now we are saving that for the next expansion… But dear lord how funny it would be if hunters got their old melee spells back and yet SV hunter the melee focused hunter is still stuck with only 2 melee abilities (not counting auto attacking)

I would much rather have this.

The unpruning isn’t meant to change your endgame playtime much. Its meant to answer the question “How come my hunter can’t just equip a bow and use iconic low level hunter abilities just because I decided at level 10 to use a spear?”

Cobra Shot replaces Steady Shot when BM picks it up. Cobra Shot has replaced Steady Shot for BM for several expansions now, actually, because back in the day Cobra Shot was literally a nature-damage version of Steady Shot (same cast time, regenerated focus, just dealt nature instead of physical and shot a green projectile).

Cobra Shot in the current iteration of BM is actually a replacement for Arcane Shot, in terms of gameplay usage. It still baffles me that they don’t have Cobra replace Arcane, and then let BM use Steady Shot (heck, without even the focus regen that MM gets) as filler during their annoyingly large amounts of downtime.

As for SV, it’s a mystery. Though it is telling (/canofworms) that the unpruned abilities were all ranged abilities, and that MM and BM possess zero melee abilities while SV has these two odd ranged abilities that make no sense. It’s almost as if even the devs see hunters as fundamentally a ranged class…

It also removes some of the mandated lock on pet families, and lets you use it even if you need another pet family ability (ex. the snare or the MS), or on a target your pet isn’t near, or if you’re not running a pet at all (MM). It was a good change, and one much requested.

Alright, my complaint about Tranq Shot was too BM-centric. I still want to get rid of that GCD though :frowning:

No, tranq shot coming back is good. having a purge on the hunter is better than the pet because it means you can run other abilities instead. It’s also more responsive being ranged not a melee ability on a pet.

Also if you want to use a tanking pet like clefthoof/corehound/scalehide. Tranq shot coming back is the one of the better changes for hunter TBH, and the only ‘unpruning’ that made any sense.
