What's the deal with poisons?

Have a level 30 Outlaw and have the option to apply poisons it seems. Do I buy them, cook them or are they made by alchemists? Or is there a quest line that starts this all up? I can’t find any info. that explains how this mechanic works.
Any info. would help.

Outlaw doesn’t use poisons. This may change in Shadowlands, but I’m guessing it’s left over on your action bars from assassin specialization. Subtlety doesn’t use them either.

I’m assuming this is for classic?
Retail Outlaw doesn’t utilise poisons, classic does, but you’ll most likely need to cover your quests.

It’s been so long, that I really do not remember how it’s implemented in Vanilla.

Thanks for answers! No more confusion.

Just an fyi , poisons are now “spells” you simply click to apply them unlike before but like others said its for assassination spec only at the moment on retail !

For classic, you have to craft them and there is a quest that begins you on this journey.

For retail, poisons are spells in your spell book. Currently only Assassination has poisons.

outlaw and sub are getting poisons again in shadowlands, right?
