I find this really annoying. For classes like mage, priest or warlock where some specs have staves and another has a sword/dagger for their legion artifact skins, the system makes no sense. If I’m in fire spec, I CAN transmog a staff into one of the Felo’melorn appearance, or one of the frost/arcane staff appearance. But I can’t mog a sword into one of those staves. The opposite applies when you’re frost or arcane spec. You could transmog a sword or dagger into one of the legion mage staff appearance but can’t mog a staff as felo’melon.
So if the technology/capability to do this exists anyway, why is it locked behind this ridiculous spec specific requirement?

Dosent make any sense cuz it was back in legion lol… now its different
well, they did remove some of the spec restrictions. You used to not be able transmog any weapon to the appearance of a different specs artifact. Now you can, but there are weapon type restrictions, despite the fact that the capability to do it is there already. It’s baffling
Yea i know my fire mage has a staff, but the artifact i moged was a sword i think
The fact that you can mog a staff into felomelorn proves that they have the tech to do it. Wish they would.

I can mog a staff into a dagger artifact, but can’t mog daggers into anything but daggers
Yeah I have a wand on my destro lock atm so I’m unable to transmog my hard earned scepter of sargeras mage tower appearances and it sucks
They like their arbitrary xmog restrictions.
I assume they did it specifically to prevent stuff like “prot warrior running around with a 2h weapon” or something. Since the Legion Artifact menu itself is what ignores weapon type.
It’s weird but I’ve come to understand it as thus;
Otherwise you cannot.
Leads to situations like my Bear/Feral/Boomkin can mog my healer/balance weapons but only my bear can have its bear gloves.
Weird? Yes
Better than it was? Yep
