What is the repeatable source for enchanting knowledge points once you’ve done all of the weekly stuff for enchanting? All of the other professions have straightforward, if slow, methods for getting knowledge points if you’re a week or more behind. But enchanting doesn’t seem to have anything like that. None of the patron orders offer points, and none of the gear I disenchant gives knowledge point items beyond the first 6 weekly ones. What do I need to do to earn the catchup points?
after the first 6 weekly ones, you need to hit dirt piles until you get the two from that. then you can get the catchup items from disenchanting
Like the gathering professions, to obtain catch-up you have to do all the weekly activities before catch-up will drop.
This includes:
- Weekly quest from your trainer
- Two dirt/ treasure drops
- Weekly disenchants (you know the weekly is done when you get Gleaming Telluric Crystal)
The two weekly treasure points aren’t required for any other profession’s catchups. This really sucks. I don’t play my enchanting alt much so I was REALLY hoping I wouldn’t have to leave Dorn to level up my enchanting.
That’s true, but on the bright side the other profession’s catch-ups are limited to a tiny trickle of maybe 3 KP a day, whilst with enchanting once you’ve opened up the catch-ups by getting your weeklies done you can get hundreds of knowledge points in a single session if you’ve got enough material to disenchant. if you don’t play your alt much, you can max out your alt’s trees in one go, which no other profession lets you do anywhere near as easily.
Pioneer’s cloth bracers or Darkmoon cards are my poison; epic items like darkmoon decks give 1 KP each DE guaranteed (provided you’ve unlocked them) while blue quality items tend to be around 70% chance to get a KP per DE, but you can click ‘craft all’ rather than needing a macro to convert a bunch of cards into a deck.
Here’s a macro you can run to track how many Shimmering Dust KP catch-up items are available to you:
/run local a=C_CurrencyInfo.GetCurrencyInfo(3059) print("You've earned ".. a.quantity .. " out of ".. a.maxQuantity .. " enchanting catch-up knowledge")
Alternatively there’s a fantastic weakaura that allows you to track everything for both your professions:

if you grab an inky black potion (you might have some left over from the last winds of fortune event, if not they’re cheap on the AH), the dirt patches stand out like neon signs in the dark. The south-east Isle of Dorn is a good spot with a lot of patches close together, or the Maddening Depths in Ahn’Kahet (just east of the city). If your alt is level 80, don’t forget to grab the weekly from the kobold in Gundergraz - if you’re doing it anyway you might as well get paid for it!
Personally I bail on the ‘bouncing slime’ or ‘stop the kobolds looting the bag of treasure’ ones immediately cos they’re not time-efficient. That leaves the ‘dodge bad stuff, then loot’ ones or the ‘kill something that spawns’ ones, which are pretty quick.
