You have to pick the recipes that are yellow for best results.
You can google leveling guides to see. If you’re going to level both and you dont have gold to do it prepare to farm your butt off.
Tailoring is probably easier though, just find a good place to farm the respective cloth. Engineering will be lots of vein farming, probably easier to try to buy your way through it but your time vs gold ratio may vary.
IMO I would focus on tailoring first so that any gold you make while farming cloth can supplement your engineering.
Just buying mats off the AH I got from 1 - 375 in 1500 gold in engineering.
IMO, take on skinning as well. You can do a lot of mob grinds while leveling, which is a nice break from questing. You’ll get almost everything you need from killing humanoids and skinning mobs.
Most of the patterns you get from the trainer will suffice.
If you plan to level enchanting, consider hoarding the greens.
You should go Engi+mining.
Once max it all out, farm ore a little further for future mats.
Collect all cloth. Kill mining and pick up tailoring.
(This is per the fact that OP doesn’t have gold to just AH-level it all)
If you don’t have mining and you’re broke you can’t. Tailoring is the easiest profession to level, just quest and kill humanoids. You can level engineering pretty easy from mats off the AH. You should have enough gold from leveling 60-70. You just won’t have the luxury of engineering items while leveling.
Great idea thanks ill do this.
I imagine ill make a decent amount of gold getting mining/eng up to help with tailoring.
Thanks!
You want tailor on your rogue? Typically the wrath meta is engi/jc for most classes. You can pull some snap shot shenanigans with tailor, but with the 60sec icd being reported on beta over time it’s not really an advantage over other profs unless you are snapshotting it.
If you pvp as well, tailor means you can’t use parachute cloak enchant, which #feelsbad (not that bgs matter, but still)
Regarding earning gold. Don’t go gathering professions, it’s a waste of time especially if you don’t already have epic flying. There’s just too many bots to compete with. I don’t know rogue specific farms that well for current content, but I do know you have one of the best ones for wrath in solo karazan trash farming.
If you can’t wait that long, dailies are a bit of a slog, but they’re OK gold, and gdkps, as much as I hate them, are the single best gold per hour “farm” in the game (though if your gear is dreadfully out of date that might be problematic too)… Try and look up tbc rogue farms and do those, until you have the gold to boost engi first. Once you have engi and epic flying, if you really want to go farther things, farm gas clouds.
It’s for my Warlock i just boosted.
Tailoring and eng is actually better for all dps classes.
For wotlk.
Oh OK for a lock.
You may find it best to just wait for prepatch… Lock gets insane in prepatch where you can tab dot aoe pull into hellfire as affliction… And even do more in dungeons with void walker sacrifice not murdering the pet… Which should make you a top tier cloth farmer open world.
In general terms lock can do some pretty amazingly efficient grinding, even now, if you don’t want to wait, and if tailoring is the way you want to go. Just find humanoids and go to town. As for whether to farm older stuff, it really depends… Odds are good you can make more gold per hour doing more current stuff and then just buy the cloth you need.
Most people making that claim where assuming a 45 sec icd cloak ench… Not the 60sec one they’re getting. Tailoring is very comparable to other profs with a 60 sec icd.
There’s still some instances where it can be a bigger deal, warlocks being a bigger case since demo wants the sp to snap shot dp and aff just wants it to snap shot dots/drain soul… But even so there’s some trade offs of having both engi and tailor
You’re already losing sp on gloves by going engi, but you “make up for that” with the engineering sp to cloak enchant… Having both professions however does cost you the engi cloak enchant’s bonus for a tailor one that technically results in a sp loss on average…(edit to clarify poor wording… To clarify: The tailor cloak ench is more average spellpower than the engi one, however the engi sp cloak enchant is also an upgrade over the regular cloak enchant, and you’ll lose that benefit by combining both tailor and engi… Vs a hypothetical jc/engi or tailor/jc combo) … We need working sims to ensure the higher value from tailor proc getting snap shotted in indeed ends up being worth the average sp loss over time.
Yeah I am loving the warlock right now.
Can’t wait to take it into WOTLK!
Pre patch xp boost will be nice to hit 70

If you’re broke prolly isn’t gonna work to buy them. Click a material in there and get to farming
Tbh use the guidss with a grain of salt. A lot of them haven’t been updated in 15 years and the economy looks a lot different so while they’re usually correct sometimes they’ll recommend items that are much more expensive than alternatives.
You can do each for a couple hundred goldish. Tailoring is a little easier/cheaper. Old world mats tend to be the most expensive so you might wait for the exp buff when people are hitting that content again if theyre really high currently
Yea maybe with the new icd it lowers it.
But 295 spell power proc equaled out more per minute SP than other profs.
Eng is mandatory basically.
Yeah it is more net spellpower on the snap shot which will be huge for locks admittedly, particularly demo.
On that note, hopefully as well, blizz takes a look at demo in particular because the current theory craft has demo locks stop attacking at least their pet, and maybe even themselves to synch the tailor proc to their DP buff refresh for the biggest snap shot. Because squeezing the extra chunk of spell power into the raid buff would outweigh the locks actual damage. Basically an awfully toxic playstyle
I feel like if there was ever a solid case to be made for #some changes, that would be a strong area/Mechanic to tweak.
That’s way to min max for me rofl.
I am on beta now with my mage learning the solo UK pull, it’s a blast.
I don’t know if I want to stay eng/alch or go tailoring/eng…
I love alch.
I’m debating between going uhdk or coming back to my lock as a main in wrath myself tbh and the lock is also engi/alch… I think I’ll end up ditching alch for enchanting, but only because it’s annoying to click the alch potion thing constantly to get my profession bonus.
But yeah alch is win, for money making at least. My alts will still have it though (currently at 6x xmute alchs)
