What's the best way to learn how to interrupt enemies well in Mythic +?

One of the most helpful things that I’ve figured out is using a mouse that has multiple buttons. On my vengeance demon hunter i have infernal strike and interrupt both bound to my thumb buttons, which makes it ridiculously easy.
Plater also helps a ton; casters are a different color so it’s easier to watch specific mobs.

only the cloth wearing NPC’s generally need interrupting, i.e. the casters.

Get this addon. It has a little box that shows you the important abilities to interrupt for each mob you target. He hasn’t updated for all the new dragon flight dungeons, but it has most. Then it shows you important boss mechanics as well.

Plater. I use Whiskeyz nameplates so it colorizes priority interrupts and secondary, etc. Plus just running the dungeons you’ll know eventually which ones are bad and which are not so bad.

Few things:

  1. Ask your group. I will always answer a question that will actually help our group performance.

  2. Figure out via your combat log what spells hurt a lot. For example in FH, the monkey mobs do a spin that basically murders melee dps within a few ticks if they don’t move. That is “uninterruptible” but they can be blinded, stunned, moved, etc to stop it. Another mob there fixates on players and kills them, including the healer and ranged dps. So stop that.

Anything that’s a heal like the greater heals cast by certain mobs in VP, must be interrupted.

One way to coordinate without really having to coordinate, is whatever mob the tank is attacking, you attack something else (still on the tank ofc) that you know casts a mean spell. Even though the first mob may die a bit slower, you might save someones life by targetting something else with a deadly cast.

Remember that even if you have blown all your CDs. Hero is up, etc etc, just still interrupt. The ONE missed global CD will not kill your dps.

When I moved interrupt for all my characters to the same button on my mouse where it is easy to press in an instant, it helped my get better.

I focus on interrupting the fear and healing spells. The others are survivable in most cases but there are exceptions to this rule.

Honestly plater. Get the plater addon and find a nice plater profile that color coordinated mobs with priority interrupts.

If you click your abilities, best just focus on the one mob in the pack that you know you’ll want interrupted, and in doubt, you can always ask your group. Some group will use weak auras to mark which mobs are priority targets and/or interrupts. As for knowing who has interrupts, there are addons for that. Method Raid Tools is one of them, that also includes other useful tools but one of them is knowing who in your groups has cooldowns available, you can choose which one of them shows up in the list, and interrupt is one of them.

rouge has like 6 interrupts

Ok so I got Plater with Whiskeyz.

This is great! Thanks everyone for the good advice.

Going to get into a few dungeons this morning and see how it goes.

I def have to change up some of these fonts though. I like the color coding from Plater but everything else looks a little cartoony.

The best way IMO is to read the WoWhead dungeon guides for each dungeon, then you can learn the important spells of each mob. Another good way is to learn by letting casts go in a low key and seeing how much it impacts you. If it impacts you a lot in a low key, in a high key it’s a one-shot. If it impacts you almost not at all in a low key, it might be a low priority but still good to interrupt if you don’t lose important interrupts for it in a high key.

First of all, turn off overlap nameplates and switch to stacking.

Then, ease back. It’s all memorization.

Some “interrupts” are gray bars, so you’ll have to CC them to stop them. e.g., Underrot’s Worms, Freehold’s Duelist Dash, Going Bananas.

The more keys you run, the more you’ll learn the priority.

lmao.

If youre any of the DPS that I PUG with, use that method! If not, let me tell you. Its actually rather simple.

First, recognize that there is something coming to interrupt.
Second, do nothing.

How do you do stacking name plates?

In the options you can have them stack or overlap.

It’s great.

I am having a blast now! Seeing pink enemies that are high prio targets, and having a voice yell INTERRUPT has made this very nice.

Having a good time!

Really I’d say it’s to learn what to interrupt. Priorities.

The big axe wielding Gnoll in Brackenhide casts a party wide fear that if not interrupted almost guarantees a wipe. Bit more important than interrupting a Blight Bolt or whatever it’s called.

And as others said, memorization.

I use à weakaura because am zug zug sometimes

To be competent at M+ you need to do more than turn up. You need to do your research and rembert what mobs and bosses do going into each pull and plan accordingly.

For example if you know a non focus mob needs interupting you can set it as a focus target and mouse over interupt it with a mouse over interupt macro you have pre made without changing target when you see it’s cast bar start etc.

Cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead]Kick;Kick

Or something similar etc.
