I like the og capture the flag it’s easy and always fun to run
The worst one got deleted at the end of Legion, only to be replaced by the new one.
The best is a good AV but the ctfs and tok are fun to me.
Battle for Gilneas is the goat.
Top 3
- Warsong Gulch - one of the oldest, and still the best.
- Alterac Valley (turtle mode) - epic clashes, grinding, pushing, winning.
- Twin Peaks - bigger version of Warsong Gulch, with better graveyard placement.
Honorable Mention - Deep 6 Brawls, these should be in the regular rotation.
Bottom 3:
Yuck: Silvershard Mines - It just seems like work rather than fun.
OMG, This Again: Isle of Champions - Too many options, too many opinions, too much arguing - just not fun.
What a Waste of Time: Alterac Valley (zerg mode) - Why is this even considered PVP?
Love me some ab.
Wsg is my 1b.
Seething shore is bad.
To me, AV is the best, or rather it was in its original form, because it felt like a real battle. In its present form, with the reinforcement system making the Iceblood choke overly powerful, it’s probably tied with AB and the one with the three mines in the middle and the carts at the bases as most resembling actual battles.
I like WSG best because I like the map-size and team-size, you tend to interact at least a little bit with pretty much every other character, and I like the fluidity of offense/defense. I wish players didn’t get so emotionally discouraged and give up so easily, but that’s “gaming” these days I guess. Of the 20 players in the battleground, 3-5 seem to always quit after the first cap, which I find disappointing regardless of which team I’m on. If it wasn’t for the severe psychological impact that some players seem to suffer, the first capture would be pretty much meaningless because of the “last cap wins” tiebreak.
The first couple times I played KoT, I didn’t really like it, but I’ve come to appreciate its simplicity, especially the quick-mode brawl version. I find that KoT is the BG that seems to have the lest arguing in chat, probably because pretty much all there is to do is grab an orb, heal an orb, or kill an orb.
I like Twin Peaks also, but it’s a little different from WSG because of the size and obstacles. AB, BfG, and EotS are fun, but they seem prone to descend into teammates bickering. I think many players underestimate how quickly these battlegrounds can be turned around, especially BfG and EotS.
Initially I didn’t like Seething Shore, but I guess I got used to it, and I like that there’s an honor vendor at the start (although I’m not sure how many players know that) so it’s a good opportunity to stock up on bg potions and foods.
Deepwind Gorge is ok, I don’t love it but don’t hate it. Stealing victory points from the other team is a unique mechanic, and I guess the map’s ok. I think the names of the nodes are annoying and confusing to some players, and also people seem unsure of what they should be doing in there.
As for Silvershard Mines, well I still don’t really like it but I guess I can tolerate it now (of course since I said that I’ll get it for 8 of my next 10 randoms). I just hate the map, the setting, the minecart mechanic, the rails, how slow everything is, and the lack of any connection to story, faction, fantasy or lore. Maybe if I played as a dwarf or goblin it would make more sense, but I’m not wild about standing around in a tiny dark hole in the ground and watching a slow-creeping bucket of rocks. I mean, we often refer to random bg’s and LFR as “cesspools” but this place is, like, and actual underground cesspool. If they brought back a single-choice blacklist, SS would probably be my exclusion (again).
I don’t really play the Epic-Scale Bg’s these days because my computer isn’t up-to-date and I sometimes lag when there’s huge groups, but I’ve always liked AV ok. IoC is ok too, I guess, but it’s just so gimmicky that it doesn’t really feel like PvP to me.
Arathi Basin is my favorite, followed by BfG and EotS.
I’d say the worst is IoC, due to it being a buggy, laggy mess.
Best is WSG and TP.
Worst is EotS cause no flags for bases. In rated worst is DWG.
AB is my fave
SS blows
#1 domination maps
#2 misc (tok, ssm, dwg)
#3 ctf maps
… and lastly, the epics
- WSG
- AV (non zerg and no horde, braindead bottleneck garbage)
- Arathi
-1 EOTS and Temple
-2 IOC
-3 Silvershard
AV, ab, tp, wsg ,ioc ,eots =Best
Ss, tok, ssm, dwg =worst
Bite me
I used to hate SOTA with a passion, but after getting Master of SOTA I became strangely fond of the battleground. Little things like tanking the attackers on their beach GY, or telling people to defend some graveyards and not others was endearing.
I just wish that instead of vehicles we had to, like, cap and hold an AB node that was a flare for an artillery strike from ships to destroy the doors.
My least favorite BG is probably IOC. I dislike that it ends with taking a single fortress and killing a single boss, but I have no clue what I’d want IOC to turn into. A sprawling fortress complex with multiple inner objectives to attack and defend would be neat.
Warsong. Where backs are broken and legends are made.
best arathi basin
worst silvershard mines
Agree with this, but I like the epics, maybe its because I did them 100 years ago when they were fun.
WSG, TP, AB are all A1.
I’ve never been a big fan of the epic bgs. I also highly dislike ToK.
