So I tried some visions on the PTR today and as I was looking at and investigating things I was struggling to find a reason as to why I should even bother to do these visions again. I mean they play exactly the same way they did in BFA. Although it does seem as though there are more masks than last time.
I got all the achievements back then. The only thing I am missing is that blasted mailbox mount.
I won’t really need the weapon upgrades, and if I do they are easier to get from delves or with crafting.
There are some mounts and mog, sure. But having to repeat the exact same content I did 5 years ago for new rewards isn’t very exciting to me. Even if the mounts are cool.
It just seems like I’m repeating a long grind that I already did in order to get some shiny new toys. Overall just seems like something I will be skipping out on as things are currently set up.
While there are a lot of returning rewards, there are a few new ones:
New mounts, looks like 7 from visions
New backpack transmog recolor
New Title/Achievements
New enchants bringing back damage proc corruption effects. Blizz is possibly going to change these from weapon enchants to something else, but currently the game says the enchanting formulas drop from the end-of-run chests and are BoP.
Black Blood Residue, the new material needed for the corruption enchants. These seem to drop more frequently when doing higher mask runs. Supposedly can also drop from Nightfall event creatures but I haven’t gotten any from that. These are able to be bought/sold on the AH, so doing visions isn’t required for this.
Gear can drop up to Hero 4/6 from the visions once per week based on how many masks you clear it with. If you’ve gotten the max gear reward it should reward you with lower gear. So it’s mostly catch-up gear really.
The revisited horrific visions definitely have a lower barrier to entry and less farming required than the old visions.
I guess my concern is more from a gameplay perspective. Orgrimmar played exactly the same way it did back in BFA. The potions. The madnesses. The crystals. The chests. The mob mechanics. The boss mechanics. All of it. I just think I am going to have an issue motivating myself to do any of it, regardless of new rewards because it just feels like I am repeating the exact same thing I did 5 years ago.
It looks like there are some masks to collect, but I am not sure I want to go through the grind to unlock them.
I am not an enchanter, so I don’t need the recipes.
I am worried that if this goes live as it is there will be a lot of us who did this content back in BFA skipping out and just being bored for a couple of months.
Yeah, gameplay-wise it’s essentially the same, even with the new masks. It would’ve been cool to have new maps instead of just Orgrimmar and Stormwind again, or some different mechanics.
A Horrific Vision of Undermine or something would’ve been sweet.
I did this in BFA and I would like to do it today. Our Toons then were using BFA mechanics. We had Necklace Heart of Azeroth, we had negative effects of Corruption and I did it before with BM Hunter who has advantage of being too mobile. I wanna do it as Petless as MM to add one notch of Fun to see if I am more tough now than before.
I happened to find an old Horrific Vision video of me. After watching it, I am excited to see it comes back.
I’m excited for it. I thought it was really fun back in BfA and I didn’t do for a long time as it was when I quit (sadly other aspects of the game were insufferable to me, like systems on top of other systems).
