What's happening here...11.1 PTR FLT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO

Hi all,

First of all, system specs:

CPU: Intel 13600KF
Motherboard: MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4
GPU: PNY RTX4080

I built this PC approx. 2 years ago - at first I had some thermal/stability issues (I wasn’t aware of the 13/14 gen intel issues at this time). After some research at the time, I found some voltage/overclock settings that kept the CPU from hitting thermal throttle, was solid performance and super stable. I’ve been able to play any game I like, including retail with no stability or performance issues.

Fast forward to early Jan 2025 when launching WoW suddenly prompted me to update my bios due to the issues with the 13/14th gen Intel chips. At this point in time, I was not aware of the ongoing issue people were facing with this chip as stated above I’d found a happy medium.

Anyway - did my due diligence and updated my bios to the latest version - everything remained the way it was, stability was fine, and I was able to play retail (including right now on the latest live patch) no problems at all.

However - I’ve been trying for the last few weeks to get into the 11.1.0 PTR. I can launch the game, get to the character select screen copy a character, create a character, whatever - however the moment I try to login with that character, the load screen appears, the progress bar appears, but does not show any progress at all and within 20 seconds the game crashes. The error log file shows (can post the rest if it would be of help):

0xC000008E (FLT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO) at 00007ffe7352a4c9

Any google search on this error takes me to threads regarding damaged intel 13/14 gen CPU’s.

I’ve tried updating drivers, updating windows, reinstalling the PTR, deleting all the PTR folders, scanning and repairing the game, modifying all settings, reducing all graphics quality, etc. Pretty much all the troubleshooting steps I could think of/search for on google.

I cannot resolve this issue and I’m concerned when 11.1 goes live, this issue will transfer to live retail for me.

My CPU seems fine everywhere else - I’m able to play any other game and as stated above can play current live retail 11.0.7 without any crashes - totally stable. I can stress test my CPU without any concern. I’ve played every previous PTR in the past 2 years without any issue.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I’ve tried what’s been suggested in other threads of lowering the P-Core value - even severely underclocking the CPU.

It seems extremely strange that all of a sudden, WoW presents a message about the 13th/14th gen CPU’s after years of running this CPU without any issues, then all of a sudden I find I’m having issues loading the next patch with an issue relating back to the CPU potentially. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

I would try to send a customer support ticket about tech support for this issue.

Thanks for the reply :). I probably will - and I have logged several suppoprt tickets on the crash screen.

I guess, what I’m trying too highlight is - is it a big coincidence that the 13/14th gen intel warning shows up when launching wow, then I have an error on the latest PTR that is seemingly related to the 13th/14th gen issue? Might be just something related to me, but maybe other running affected CPU’s should give the PTR a try and see if they have similar issues?

I know a bunch of people were also flagged to update their bios but not sure how many have tried the PTR. Make sure this is reported through the PTR itself (there should be a glowing bug on your screen).
