Had a lot of fun in low level keys just rolling 4 DPS and a tank. Ret off heal was enough to keep the group up, granted the rest of the group was geared. Would be interesting if Blizzard leaned into this play style more as an option. Maybe ret could tank or heal with 4 other dps. Figured it was worth throwing out info on what is fun and maybe some interesting ideas will pop up.

Ret off-healing has always been fun. Selfless healer is a super cool talent. Sadly, we’ve gotten to the point where hybrid playstyles are not valued by the community or encouraged by Blizzard. In PVE, every DPS class is judged only by its raw numbers and “utility”… instead of utility, Ret has got healing (which is a fair trade IMO)… but many don’t see it that way.

LoH when someone is less than 5-10% HP and just bringing them fully back to life. Nothing is more satisfying than clutch plays.

… to be honest… that’s really it. 
- The animations are very lack luster. BoJ and WoA aren’t really satisfying.
- The rotation is meh, nothing amazing.
- Blessings and Divine Steed feel very shallow as abilities. They are very unimpactful for the most part and Divine Steed is over theatrical for what it does.
I would say the class design is at an all time low, and the lackluster Paladin Covenant abilities did not help the class at all.

When youre snared/slowed and you use your only movement ability to change nothing about your situation unless you also use freedom.

And even then…it’s a toss up if Freedom will actually work on the snare applied to you haha. I know it’s not that common but the fact that it is an ever sort of thing is pretty unacceptable.

In pvp its when you have no wings ready to do a go but you have hoj and 2holy power, then you have Aura of Reckoning ready to be procced, so you use vanquisher’s hammer, as soon as you auto attack the target and hoj them you get the big auto attack and wings proc and then tier set proc, tv + ds for free, wake, tv + ds for free and most of the time its enough to force big defensive cds or trinkets, or death.
Or you sit on a dp proc to do the same thing for your wings proc.
In pve, honestly the most fun is doing plaguefall and necrotic wake and stunning most mobs in the dungeon with wake of ashes. It should always stun non-players enemies.
Talking about those dungeons tho, why some of them are undead and others with the same undead model are humanoids? Still baffle me.

I find that sort of thing fun too, Overdosage, like when Ret triple DPS comps are occasionally decent in arena. A big part of what makes Ret charming to me is always keeping one eye on your party frames. That’s why I get frustrated when the devs do something like replace our magic dispel with an interrupt. I realize that was a very long time ago, but think about this: it took us two expansions to get WoG and Sac back. We can get these spells back and live the hybrid dream.

Yeah they do have it as an option, it’s called if you want to heal, GO HOLY!!!
The only acceptable offhealing I would want to Ret to do, is when people step into your Consecration and Divine Storm once again healing for a % of its damage. Throwing out a WoG or LoH once in a while is OK but I do not want to be trapped as some horrible off healing hybrid trashcan that doesn’t do good DPS and is brought because it can heal sometimes.
When in a pug with a crazy tank that pulls 3+ groups, and I have wings up. Oh man. I try to count to 5 or so, but I get too excited and die a lot. Especially when shields are down. Seeing that 65k dps makes it totally worth it though.
My ret just hit 60 and I’m hyped to push with him in season 4
That’s awesome. I’ve just come back from a break so I’m trying to push rating before the season ends but I’m mostly having to pug every key.
I think ret can really shine with a good team and a tank that understands your dmg profile. I hope you have a good team you run with, and if not, best of luck anyway!

Keep up with other non meta specs and lesser skilled players of meta specs. Guess I’ve got a pretty low bar ;_;
In all seriousness though, perhaps I should change my wording to “actually can exist” if only because of threat issues. I think most reasonably skilled tanks know when your cd’s are up after all.
