What WoW Could Learn From FFXIV

Also dropping Dark Arts from Dark Knight… but giving something strikingly similar to gunblades.

FFXIV actually stopped sub rewards a while back

100% i am played it for 2 months for my real life brother didn’t do it for me came right back here.

The best lesson blizzard could learn is:

You are not right all of the time. It’s ok.
A fool thinks he is a wise man.
A wise man knows he is a fool.

Don’t see any issue with a scaling experience bonus for getting characters to max level, all it does is encourage people to try new classes.
Honestly it would probably promote more game time (over all players) than the amount gained from boost services.

Flying definitely needs to be addressed. Finishing the story would definitely be a more reasonable approach although I still think they need to develop the game around flying instead of just having it as a fast mount with a Z-axis.

Not sure on monthly rewards. I get it for sure but is it just more free stuff we don’t need, plus exclusivity which people will rally against?
Maybe if it was limited duration, like every 3 months subbed you work toward something with a cap, otherwise I think it can be punishing. How would it work with people who used time cards as well?
I’m just personally not a big fan.

One of the things I absolutely love about FFXIV is how they handled dungeon/raid scaling and how they consistently have made the content relevant and fun. Not to mention the graphics are just a million times better and the overall community is fantastic.

I mean, I’ve played WoW for over a decade, but I definitely pre-ordered Shadowbringers!

While there are many things in FFXIV that I love, what I’d appreciate seeing most is the same level of care and attention to the game from the devs. I respect Yoshi-P and his team. They don’t put out a game that’s full of bugs, just to get it out there. They don’t do ninja hotfixes to keep players from getting to the good stuff too quickly.

I was just thinking about this today, while I spent over half an hour trying to get the Runelocked Chest WQ to work. I finally had to clear the cache to get it done, and that’s after it’s been “fixed” since yesterday’s disaster. The Tickles quest that frustrated many folks yesterday. The ninja hotfix on the mount from the Murloc today. I could go on with examples from other patches–there are many, because these same sorts of things happen every single time.

Sorry, but you don’t see things like this in FFXIV. It’s a product quality issue, as well as an issue of respecting the playerbase, and Blizzard devs should take lessons.

Edit: All that being said, Square Enix could (and should) take lessons from Blizzard in customer support. SE’s customer support is notorious for being terrible. They could also stand to completely overhaul the Mogstation and subscription system, as well as the system used to even purchase the game. It’s all very convoluted and confusing, and many players, even those of us who have played for years, are experiencing it all yet again with Shadowbringers’ release.

I most definitely do give Blizzard credit for awesome customer support.

The mog rewards look pretty damn good and are very usable, so it’s hardly pointless.

I wasn’t going to provide a longer answer, but here goes: There are a lot of things both MMO’s could learn from each other.

In terms of things FF could learn from WoW:

  • FF really needs to ease up on gating ALL end-game content behind main story line quests. As much as I love the main story quest line, there should be options for players who don’t want to have to sit through hours of quests and cut scenes in order to unlock certain raid and primal fights. I will say the grinds can be tedious on both MMO’s however. I have a love/hate relationship with this sort of thing (as you’ll see later on in my reply).

  • FFXIV could do better in terms of creating more play fluidity when it comes to talent use and being slightly more forgiving to mechanics based mistakes on certain fights.

  • FF could really improve in the PVP department. It’s a virtually non-existent thing there.

In terms of things WoW could learn from FF:

  • FF is definitely fantastic when it comes to dungeon scaling for its content and keeping users interested in helping newer players just experiencing it by providing bonus rewards for those who are helpful. This is great design and helps promote a sense of belonging.

  • WoW is really lacking in the in-game communal department, while FF has encouraged a great, strong, helpful and fun community of players that like to do things together and help each other out. The problem is that WoW has made the game so self-reliant that people don’t engage anywhere near as much in-game as they did say 10 years ago.

  • I don’t care what other class aoe looks like and the fact that I can shut this off as a feature in FF, has made my raiding experience there that much more enjoyable. It’s no fun watching a bunch of aoe clutter my screen honestly.

  • The red lines that tell everyone to watch out for bad really shouldn’t be a thing in FF. I do like the fact that the encounters are very unique in design. The Construct 7 fight in Ridorana Lighthouse is a great encounter and I love how they applied math calculations as part of the fight itself (if you get the answer right, you get a fantastic buff and if you get the answer wrong, you get the opposite).

  • I would like to see better writing on lore in WoW: FF has done such a great job here that it’s really no comparison.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, but yep.

The reason everything is gated behind story is because 14 is WAY more story focused. There is no comparison between wow and 14 when it comes to the story, it’s night and day.

If you aren’t enjoying the story the game isn’t for you and then things locked behind the story doesn’t matter.

That all being said, there is a major sour spot and that is the 2.0-2.5 quest chain. Worst part of the whole game and anyone who plays will agree. The team has agreed it’s a problem but they don’t have the time to fix it currently.

Please re-read my comment and tell me where I said I didn’t like the story line. I didn’t say that at all. I said the gating between the story line and what you can do in the game if you haven’t completed it in entirety is somewhat overkill.

Oh I read it. But that’s not the kinda game it is. They have literally never put out content that wasn’t gated behind some form of story. You were saying that you think they should separate the content from the story and I was telling you it’s not going to happen

You still need a subscription to post on these forums, so this means that you are paying just to post on these forums. One week ago my subscription ran out, and due to 2 huge bills being paid, I hadn’t the $15 until payday, so I couldn’t renew, Subsequently , I lost the posting ability until I subscribed. This is fact.

No. I said that the story line is great, but I dislike that outside of the story line there ends up being a lot of lackluster stuff to do.

That’s what you said. I’m telling you it’s not happening.

As far as things not related to the msq, the game has plenty to do. Just gotta do the story first. Anybody saying there’s nothing to do probably hasn’t gotten far enough yet.
